18U: SMITH GOES THE DISTANCE IN ROTH VICTORY

STRUTHERS, OH- Mason Smith had things under control as he was able to throw a 4-hit shutout against the Whiting Roll-Offs (3-8) en route to a 3-0 victory on Saturday.

Smith led Roth Brothers (4-4) on the bump with a 7-inning complete game that included five walks and two strikeouts on 95 total pitches.  Leaning on his defense, Smith’s teammates committed no errors and Smith’s battery mate, Cam Whalen was able to keep the traffic close on the basepaths when he threw out Hunter Bates.

Offensively, Owen Sabol, Asher Patton, and Cam Whalen provided the lightning for Roth.  Each drove in runs respectively, while Brendon Hink went 2 for 3 at the plate.

Tim Lewis would collect the loss for Whiting, going 5 innings, scattering 4 hits, and giving up 3 runs.  Lewis also walked three while sitting down 5 Roth batters via the strikeout.

Mark Torsello and Hunter Bates each walked twice for Whiting.
