RAIDERS STAND TALL IN TOURNEY TUNE-UP

CANFIELD, OH-  The South Range Raiders weathered a scare by Girard in the first inning where the Raiders coughed up three runs, but Raiders still won 5-4 on Tuesday. Girard’s big inning was driven by singles by David Blackmon and Degregory and by Malito.  Girard fired up the offense in the first inning. Girard scored one run when Blackmon singled.  The Raiders pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Brycen James drew a walk, scoring one run.  Junior, Ben Rivera added a sacrifice fly as well to aid the Raiders.

Nick Habeth (3-2) was the winning pitcher for South Range. He lasted five innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out one. Brandon Youngs and Michael Cunningham entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Youngs recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Raiders.  Shawn Leasure took the loss for Girard. He went six innings, allowing five runs on ten hits and striking out two.

Offensively, the Raiders tallied ten hits. Jared BajerskiKris Scandy, and Jake Gehring all managed multiple hits for Raiders. Junior, Jared Bajerski led the Raiders with three hits in four at bats.  For Girard, Degregory went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Girard in hits. Girard didn’t commit a single error in the field. Claussell had five chances in the field, the most on the team.
