SPARTANS STUMBLE IN SEASON OPENER

BOARDMAN OH- Their too many teams that could be a tougher task to open the season for the Boardman Spartans softball team. They welcomed in a might Walsh Jesuit team that came in sporting two players primed for D1 colleges. The game stayed close for a couple innings, but eventually the Warriors bats lit up the scoreboard to run away with the evening 16-4.

For the Spartans, they had some bright spots at the plate. Nadia Rawhneh got on base in each at bat for Boardman going 1-1 with 2 walks. Jenna Olexa and Dana Haus both went 3-4 on the day. Kathryn Ohoro picked up the lone RBI going 1-4 at the plate. Haus, and Sofia Hoffman both had extra base hits for Boardman. Each hit a double.

Madison Lestor took the loss in the circle for Boardman. She pitched 5.1 innings and gave up 12 hits and 9 ER. She struck out 4.

Emma Barnes shined at the plate for the Warriors. She went 4-5 with 3 RBI and 4 runs scored. Natalie Susa helped out her own cause going 3-4 with 2 RBI.

Susa picked up the win for Walsh. Her final line was 7.0 IP 9 H 3 ER 5 BB 11 K.

Boardman returns to action Friday as they travel to Twinsburg.
