A THRILLER FOR HAVRILLA; CARDINALS WALK OFF BOARDMAN

STRUTHERS, OH-A walk-off single led the Canfield Cardinals past the Boardman Spartans 3-2 on Wednesday. The game was tied at two with the Cardinals batting in the bottom of the seventh when junior, AJ Havrilla singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides throughout the night. Canfield pitchers Landon Beidelschies and Jake Grdic struck out 14, while Boardman Spartans pitchers Gavin Hyde and Griffin Widrig sat down nine.

Canfield knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Michael Patellis singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Jake Grdic was the winning pitcher for the Canfield Cardinals. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on one hit over one inning, striking out two and walking zero.

Griffin Widrig took the loss for Boardman. The pitcher allowed four hits and one run over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking zero.

Gavin Hyde started the game for Boardman Spartans. The righty allowed five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six Landon Beidelschies started the game for Canfield. Beidelschies allowed five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out 12

The Cardinals racked up nine hits. Havrilla and Nate Shaw each collected multiple hits for Canfield. Shaw and Havrilla each managed two hits to lead the team.

Boardman tallied six hits. Jason Triveri and Widrig each managed multiple hits for the Spartans.

Canfield (15-3) will open a two-game series beginning on Monday against Austintown Fitch, while Boardman (9-10) will close their regular season next week against Chardon, Howland, Fitch, and Poland.
