ALAZAUS HAS ALL THE SAUCE; BUCKEYES BLANK METRO

AUSTINTOWN, OH- The Buckeyes looked unstoppable on Saturday night at Koch Field, as they trounced Metro Ice 13-0 to take a commanding 2-game lead in the MVAA Championship Series.

Former West Branch standout pitcher, Brant Alazaus was mesmerizing for The Buckeyes on the bump, going all seven innings and only giving up a pair of hits in the outing.  Alazaus also struck out three without giving up as much as a walk on the evening.

Offensively, the Buckeyes put up a pair of runs to start the game before exploding again in the third inning for 6 runs.  They’d put 5 more up in the final two stanzas to seal the deal.  Kevin Sierra led the charge offensively going 2-3 including a 2-RBI triple in that third-inning.  Brad Smith was the fire-starter from the 2-spot on Saturday, accounting for 3 runs in the game and driving in one.  Dylan Duchek, Seth Schroeder, Brad Kubis, Braden Olson, and Pete Hernandez all drove in runs as well for the Buckeyes.

For Metro Ice, Jake Foster showed grit, but the Metro defense’s early troubles would cost them.  Foster went 6 innings, giving up 11 runs (7 earned) while walking five and striking out three.  Former Hubbard Eagle, Jace Markle would appear in an inning of relief and surrender a pair of runs on a hit.

With the Buckeyes up 2 games to none, the series will continue to Game 3 on Monday at 7pm where Metro will fight for their championship hopes to continue, and the Buckeyes go for the sweep.  YSN will have you covered if you’re unable to make the game.
