CANFIELD OH- Some say the art of slapping is dead in the youth level softball. It might be getting less common, but if you ask any South Range softball fan, they’ll tell you pretty quick that slapping is alive and well. That’s because the Raiders feature one of the best slap hitters northeast Ohio has to offer. When executed well, a slapper can be a headache to get out. Dado has all the fundamentals down to be a great hitter. She can bunt, she can’t drive the ball into the ground, and when the situation calls for it, she can power slap the ball into the outfield. Dado came in to this season with high expectations after leading the Raiders in average almost all of last season. Maddie wreaked havoc on opposing teams getting on the bases, and then causing chaos once she was there. Although the first few weeks didn’t start the way Dado wanted this season, she was able to regain her confidence and rhythm during the team’s trip to Myrtle Beach. Now just like last season, Dado is one of the toughest outs on the Raiders team.
Maddie has also stepped into a much larger leadership role this season. As a junior, she is now a veteran on a team that does carry some youth on the roster. She’s not coming in blind to the responsibilities though, she was also a fantastic leader during the volleyball and basketball seasons.
This season Dado is currently hitting .416. She has collected 6 doubles, 1 triple, and 18 RBI. She has been a productive bat moving down to the sixth spot in the lineup earlier this season. She took that move as a challenge, and it did indeed turn her hitting around. Just like last season, Dado runs wild on the bases leading the team so far with 13 stolen bases. She also leads the team in causing defensive errors. She has reached on 9 errors as her speed put tons of pressure on opponents defenders.
Dado took the time to have a conversation with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig to talk about her season. They also discuss becoming a leader on the team, how she handles the mental part of the game, and so much more. Check out the latest South Range Softball Player Profile exclusively on YSN!
