ANOTHER EXTRA INNING WALK OFF PUNCHES BOARDMAN’S TICKET

ASHTABULA OH- In a win or go home scenario on Monday night Boardman met up with a familiar Tallmadge team. When the two teams met on Saturday it was an instant classic as Boardman walked it off in 8 2-1. The hype for the rematch was real, and the matchup lived up to the billing. Deadlocked again in extras Boardman walked it off in the 8th this time by a score of 3-2.

Tallmadge scored fast, leading off the game with a triple, and eventually bring ing that run home to take a 1-0 lead. That was all though, as the Boardman defense locked down from there.  In the 4th inning Boardman finally struck a blow as Addie Volosin knocked in the game tying run.  Talmadge would score in the top of the 6th to go up 2-1, and put Boardman’s back against the wall. However, it was no sweat for this Boardman team to dig deep and find a way to continue the game.  Lily Sardich plated Addy Rudge on a huge RBI base hit to tie the game up and send it to extras.

Both teams would go to their second pitcher in the 7th to avoid the 24 hour break needed if a pitcher throws more than 6 innings. Emily Swantek relieved Emma Davies and pitched a clean 7th and a clean 8th inning to keep the game tied at 2.  In the bottom of the 8th the same inning Boardman won last time, Volosin came up with a monster RBI double to the wall in left to score Davies and win the game for Boardman 3-2.

Boardman advances to the winner take all State Championship on Tuesday vs Clay. The game is set for 6:00 in Ashtabula. The winners move on to Whitestown Indiana for the Regional bracket on June 25th.
