ANY GIVEN DAY; NILES STUNS CARDINALS IN DISTRICT SEMIS

STRUTHERS OH- Niles proved on Monday that truly anybody can beat anybody on any given day. The Dragons came into their matchup on Monday night against Canfield ready to go. They didn’t care that people were talking about state championships for the Cardinals. They used a mix of outstanding pitching, and timely hitting to knock off the Cardinals 4-3.

Niles trailed 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning when Matt Kozak doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Canfield opened up scoring in the second inning when an error scored one run.

Kozak was credited with the victory for the Red Dragons. The pitcher surrendered three runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out five.

Jake Grdic took the loss for Canfield. The righty went three innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out five and walking one.

Nate Shaw started the game for Canfield. The righthander went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three

Landon Beidelschies, Josh Juliano, Ethan Prout, Ryan Petro, and Grdic each collected one hit to lead Canfield.

Niles racked up eight hits on the day. Kolton Christopher, Kozak, and Michael Guarnieri all managed multiple hits.

Niles advances to the district championship game on Wednesday where they’ll meet up with Chardon. That game will be at Cene Park. First pitch set for 4:00.
