BCB’S MIKE SMITH INTERVIEW ABOUT IMPACT ON VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUES

BOARDMAN, OH- From the moment Mike Smith’s Boardman 11 and under team raised the banner on their state championship, the eyes of the Mahoning Valley turned to Williamsport, Pennsylvania.  A place where only one valley team has left a cleat impression before during the Little League World Series.

On Thursday afternoon, while celebrating one of the more animated players on the team having a birthday (Happy Birthday, Coop) the decision was handed down that Little League would not hold a World Series in 2020 due to COVID-19.

The dream was shattered.

However, winning a state championship has its advantages.  You’re still the last team standing for as long as no other team can knock you from your throne.  Boardman still remains “King of the Castle” in the Buckeye State, and fully intend to defend their crown given the chance.

Where do the boys of summer go from here?  What would a regular season look like?  What could have been?  For those answers, we brought in the Skipper of the 11U State Champs who had the cars gassed up for a potential trip to Little League, USA this summer.  Mike Smith joins DJ for a conversation from a coach’s perspective, EXCLUSIVELY on YSN.
