BEAVER LOCAL ICED IN EXTRA TIME

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The John Marshall Monarchs came into Beaver Local and stole a win against the Beavers 51-48 in OT.  It was an eventful contest from the tip to the final buzzer.

The Beavers jumped out to an early lead 11-2, and held multiple 10 point leads in the first half. The scoring sheet for Beaver Local was very spread out in the first 16 minutes. They lead 23-19 at the half. The Monarchs didn’t give up though. Both teams had trouble finishing in the paint and turning the ball over. The Beavers looked to have the game to begin the 4th, but the Monarchs stormed back and exchanged leads with Beaver Local for most of the quarter.

The Monarchs got the ball with 10 seconds left down 2. Landyn Helms hit the tying layup with 4 seconds left to send it into OT. The Monarchs then took leads and held the ball to force fouls, as they were already in the double bonus entering the overtime period. With 9 seconds left, after a Monarch miss from the line, Jenna Ricardo grabbed a rebound, but a jump ball was forced by the Monarchs on a play that many people argued should have been an over the back foul call. The Beavers were forced to foul and a free throw did it for John Marshall.

Jenna Riccardo finished with 19 points and 8 boards while Elizabeth Kolkowski added nine tallies and 12 caroms.  Madison Cline also supplemented scoring with nine points of her own.

The Beavers now fall to 2-3 on the young season and will take on Indian Creek on Thursday.
