BEAVER LOCAL, WEIRTON PLAY TO A DRAW

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH-The Beaver Local girls soccer team tied the Weirton Red Riders 2-2 on Tuesday in the final regular-season game of the season. The Beavers scored 2 goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead.

Jensen Britt scored the first goal with 30:10 left in a long arching shot from about 30 feet away. Then with 19:11 left in the first half Jordan Palmer scored on a rush with a Weirton defender chasing her on a short-range kick on the left side of the goal. Weirton had 2 chances to score in the first half. The Red Riders appeared to score with 22:48 left in the first half but the goal was nullified by an offsides call. Then with 5:10 left in the first half, Weirton was awarded a free-kick after Jensen Britt was given a yellow card but Beaver Local goalkeeper Halley Russell made the save.

Weirton finally got on the scoreboard with 21:12 left in the second half on a goal by Julianna Gladowski as she raced by on oncoming Russell. Then nearly 5 minutes later with 16:16 left in the second half Gladowski scored again to tie the score 2-2. That’s how this one would end. Halley Russell made 8 saves. The Beavers are now 6-3-3 & travel to West Branch on Saturday in the regular-season finale. The Beavers begin tournament play on Monday at home against Carrollton. Weirton is now 8-5-3.
