BEAVERS HOLD OFF HUBBARD

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- Beaver Local fresh off their first loss of the season over the weekend returned home Wednesday night looking to right the ship.  The Beavers would right that ship defeating Hubbard in 4 sets 25-14, 24-26, 25-18, 25-18.

After getting out to a fast start and dispatching the Eagles quickly in the first set, the Beavers struggled to get anything going in the second set.  “Tonight may not have been our best outing of the season as we came out a little inconsistent”  Coach Sarah Lowe on her team’s early struggles.  Hubbard’s Sophomore laden lineup, led by outside hitter Peyton Slovesko, was able to keep the Eagles in the match by winning the very contested second set forcing the Beavers to regroup between sets.  Regroup is exactly what they did in the third set as Senior Grace Hill took over at the net on her way to a team-high 17 kills.   Brooke Talbot contributed as well for the winners with 9 kills and 11 assists.  Lowe noticed her front line contributions were the key to their success “Our front line hitters were able to come through and make up for some of our deficits tonight”.

Junior Emma Joseph lead the Beavers by setting up the front-line attack with 15 assists.  Hubbard’s Slovesko kept the Beavers’  defense busy trying to spark her team in the fourth set.  The Beaver Local defense answered the call led by Bailey Bowersock and Leah Riccardo with 18 and 13 digs respectively on their way to a victory.  After her team’s victory Coach Sarah Lowe is already looking forward to the future “  Moving forward we need to build our consistency to be able to meet our long term goals for the season”

The Beavers (6-1) will look quickly to gain that consistency as they hit the road visiting fellow Buckeye 8 foe Harrison Central on Thursday.
