BIG OFFENSE WINS THE DAY FOR MAPLEWOOD
JEFFERSON OH- Maplewood came out swinging and held off Jefferson for an 11-6 win on Tuesday on the road.
The Rockets got on the board early, scoring in the first on a wild pitch. Jefferson answered right back in the bottom half when Allison Hill sent one to deep center for a solo shot to tie it up.
But Maplewood took control in the second. Hayley Flinner slapped an RBI single to break the tie, then Claire Urchek followed with a two-run double to make it 4-1. In the third, Lauran Krieg added to the lead with a base knock to right, pushing it to 5-1.
Emily Perline picked up the win for the Rockets, working four innings and giving up four runs on four hits. She struck out one and walked two. Addison Marker came in to lock it down and earn the save. Jefferson’s Olivia Lewis took the loss, going the distance but allowing 11 runs (8 earned) on 13 hits while striking out six and walking four.
Maplewood’s offense stayed hot with 13 hits on the day. Krieg, Flinner, Aleesia Woomer, Ava Calvert, and Urchek each picked up two hits. Urchek led the way with three RBIs, going 2-for-3 and delivering in big spots.
For Jefferson, Hill was the main source of pop with three RBIs, and Makenna Stanich sparked things from the nine-hole with a 2-for-3 day. Next up, Maplewood heads to Mathews on Wednesday, while Jefferson gets set to host North on Thursday.
