BLUE DEVILS COMING HOME WITH GOLD IN THEIR HANDS

COLUMBUS OH-  McDonald track & field made serious noise in Columbus over the weekend, racking up 11 podium finishes and bringing home the Division III Boys State Championship—the third in program history. Leading the charge was Drew Zajack, who claimed state gold in discus, putting the Blue Devils on top of the field events early. On the girls’ side, Emma Bundy earned a 3rd-place finish in discus, while Cierra Shiley took 4th in shot put, giving McDonald some early points on the board.

The distance squads were locked in all weekend. The girls 4×800 relay team of Kylie Flere, Juliana Krumpak, Selah Sheesley, and Naomi Sheesley landed on the podium with a strong 3rd-place finish, while the boys 4×800 crew of Carson Klase, Eddie Baldwin, Joey Cappuzzello, and Joshua Krumpak grabbed runner-up honors to kickstart the boys’ title hunt. Carson Klase continued his monster meet with a 2nd-place finish in the 1600m, setting a new school record of 4:11.54, and added a 5th-place finish in the 800m to his resume. Joey Cappuzzello also chipped in with a gritty 8th-place finish in the 3200m.

On the girls’ side, freshman Naomi Sheesley put on a show, grabbing 3rd in the 1600m, 6th in the 800m, and anchoring both the 4×800 and 4×400 relay, which placed 7th alongside teammates Flere, Rita Domitrovich, and Krumpak. Naomi placed in all four of her events, making her one of the most impactful underclassmen of the weekend.
