BLUE DEVILS MAKE THE MOST OUT OF DOUBLE HEADER
MCDONALD OH- McDonald rolled into Monday’s doubleheader with Lowellville and walked away with a clean sweep, thanks to a heavy dose of Aubrey Evans in the circle and at the plate.
In the opener, Evans was straight dealing. The righty punched out 12 and gave up just two hits in five innings of work, keeping the Rockets off balance all game. Lowellville’s lone run came early when Gianna Palumbo launched a solo shot to center in the first, but Evans slammed the door shut after that—no walks, just pure command.
Evans also helped her own cause in the bottom half, ripping a double to center that tied the game. McDonald tacked on the go-ahead run in the second on a Gianna Mancini RBI knock, then added some insurance off a Rocket miscue in the third.
McDonald played clean behind their ace—zero errors—and Addison Grewell anchored the defense with 12 chances handled.
Game two? Same story. Evans again toed the rubber and again delivered—five innings, one unearned run, only one hit, and eight punchouts. She didn’t just dominate in the circle either—she blew the game open in the third with a three-run bomb to left.
McDonald’s offense got rolling in the second with a Marissa Colarich RBI single and a productive groundout from Violet Smith. They worked deep counts too, drawing six walks as a team. Kayla Helco swiped two bags, and Grewell added a pair of free passes herself.
Lowellville couldn’t muster much offense, picking up just one hit in game two, though Alyssa Kuzan reached base twice. The Rockets showed some aggressiveness on the bases with a couple steals but couldn’t string anything together.
With the sweep, McDonald keeps momentum rolling and will look to stay hot when they head to Western Reserve on Wednesday.
