BOARDMAN TAKES TUNE UP OVER CANFIELD

STRUTHERS, OH- With big games coming up this week, both Boardman and Canfield were looking for tune-up games this weekend to keep things fresh.  Why not play each other?  The AAC foes have been matched up twice already this year with each team taking a game, the rubber match was a no-brainer.

Boardman stole the lead late and defeated Canfield 5-1 on Saturday. The game was tied at one with the Spartans batting in the top of the sixth when Jac Cordon doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.

Boardman got on the board in the first inning. Anthony Butto grounded out, scoring one run.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Canfield tied things up at one when Ryan Petro doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

Seth Cervello got the win for Boardman. The righty went one and one-third innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out three and walking one. Adam Konnerth and Charlie Young entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Connor Miller was on the pitcher’s mound for Canfield. Miller surrendered one run on two hits over one inning, walking one.  Brock Baker took the loss going one inning, allowing four runs on two hits.

Petro led the way at the dish for Canfield going 2 for 3.

Guy Young started the game for Boardman. Young surrendered zero runs on two hits over three innings, striking out two and walking one

Cordon went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits.
