BOARDMAN WALKS OFF GAME ONE WITH CARDINALS

BOARDMAN OH- Boardman made it count when it mattered most. Down 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Spartans flipped the script with one swing—Tyler Kirlik laced a double to drive in two and send the home dugout into a frenzy, sealing a 3-2 walk-off win over rival Canfield on Wednesday.

It was a tight one all the way through, with both teams getting strong outings from their arms. Boardman’s bullpen came up big late, with Ryan Neifer tossing nearly three shutout innings in relief to keep it close. Collin Resetar started the game, working through some traffic but keeping things within reach.

Canfield struck first in the fifth, cashing in on back-to-back hits to take a 2-0 lead. But Boardman chipped away, tied it in the sixth, and then Kirlik dropped the hammer in the seventh.

Kirlik was the sparkplug all day, going 3-for-4 and driving in the game-winners. Tommy Varley added a pair of knocks to help set the table.

Canfield scattered their offense, getting two-hit games from a couple bats and turning two clean double plays in the field, but couldn’t shut the door in the final frame. These two squads go back at it Thursday—this time on Canfield’s turf.
