BOARDMAN WIN STREAK SNAPPED BY BEAVERS
PAINESVILLE OH— Boardman pushed Riverside to the edge on Tuesday, but a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth sent the Spartans home with a tough 3-2 loss in extra innings.
It was a pitcher’s duel from the start, with both teams trading punches and big outs. Tori Strines was steady through seven innings for Boardman, giving up just two runs while scattering eight hits and striking out three. But it was a one-out knock in extras that ultimately ended it.
Riverside got on the board first with a tag-up sac fly in the fourth, but Boardman answered in the fifth when Jocelynn Torres poked a single to right to even things up. Then Addie Rudge gave the Spartans the lead in the sixth with a solo shot to dead center—one of the game’s biggest swings.
Riverside tied it back up in the bottom half of the sixth after a walk and a timely base knock. In extras, it was Clara Granchi who played hero, singling in the winning run to end it.
Boardman had five hits on the night—Rudge, Torres, Mikayla Rivera, Kenzie Cherne, and Strines each with one. Rudge’s homer was the offensive highlight, while Strines handled most of the work in the circle before Gabi Sferra came in for relief in the eighth.
Riverside’s Annaliese Davis was tough to crack, going the distance with 13 strikeouts while walking three and giving up just two runs on five hits. Granchi led the Beavers at the plate, going 3-for-5 out of the leadoff spot. Boardman will look to bounce back Thursday on the road at Gilmour Academy.
