BUCKEYES SLIDE SAFELY PAST METRO ICE IN GAME 1

AUSTINTOWN, OH- The offensive explosion took a while to set off on Friday night, but once it started, it was hard to stop as The Buckeyes stormed back from 2-0 to come out victorious 9-2 in Game 1 of the 2020 MVAA Championship.

Gary Muntean was electric on the mound following a shaky first inning.  Muntean went the distance for the complete game 5-hitter.  Allowing 2 earned runs to cross while walking four and striking out a trio of Ice Men.

Offensively, the third inning was the breakout inning for the Scarlet and Gray, chalking up five runs.  The Buckeyes offense was keyed by 11 hits including that of centerfielder, Kevin Sierra, who went 1-4 with a frozen rope 2 RBI-Double that took the wind out of the sails for Metro Ice.  Ryan Cheslik, Brad Smith, Dylan Duchek, Brad Kubis, and Devin Turvey each had an RBI for the Buckeyes, while Tony Mehle led the team at the plate with a 2-3 night.

For Metro Ice, Nick Charnas will take the loss, going 4 innings of work, giving up 6 runs on 6 hits.  Charnas also struck out three, while walking a pair.

Marco DeFalco led the way offensively for Metro Ice with a 3-3 night at the dish driving home one.

Game 2 will take place Saturday night at 7pm at Koch’s Fields in Austintown.  If you can’t make the game live, tune into YSNLive.com for complete coverage.
