CANFIELD GETS A WALK OFF OF THEIR OWN

CANFIELD OH-  Boardman and Canfield went toe-to-toe Thursday night in a classic pitcher’s duel, but it was the Cards who walked it off, stealing a 2-1 win in the bottom of the seventh.

With the game locked at one apiece, Canfield came through in crunch time with a game-winning single to send the home crowd into a frenzy.

Both squads got solid work on the mound. Boardman leaned on Tyler Kirlik for five gritty innings, giving up just one run while scattering four hits. Nawrocki came in to close but got tagged with the tough-luck loss after surrendering the game-winner. Canfield’s staff was just a tick better, striking out seven and limiting the Spartans to six hits and a single unearned run.

Boardman’s lone run came in the fifth, when a bases-loaded walk broke the scoreless tie. But Canfield answered right back in the bottom half with a single to even things up.

At the plate, Boardman spread out the offense—six different players tallied hits, and they showed great patience, working six walks. Still, the big knock never came.

Canfield’s lineup came up clutch late. Their top sticks combined for four hits, with the key damage done by Groner to tie it, and Mancini to win it. Boardman heads to Poland on Friday, looking to bounce back after this tough one.
