CANFIELD GETS ALL THEY COULD HANDLE FROM THE SPARTANS

MAHONING VALLEY SPORTS

By Michael Wolfgang

CANFIELD, OHIO – Canfield built themselves up a nice cushion as they would need it to hold off the late Boardman run and defeat the Spartans 6-4 Tuesday night.

The Canfield offense got after it in the first inning scoring two runs, highlighted by a Malena Toth ground out that brought in one run. Canfield collected 11 hits as a team with Jenna Triveri and Marina Koenig each collecting multiple hits for the Cardinals.

The Canfield defense was squeaky clean as they didn’t commit any defensive miscues. Toth led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Canfield. The righthander had things going all night, surrendering four runs on seven hits over seven complete innings, striking out 11.

Tori Strines knocked in a pair of runs for the Spartans going 1-3 with a walk on the day.  Ava Freeborough went 1-4 with a RBI from the top of the lineup.  Natalie Davis also knocked in a run for Boardman going 1-3 with a walk.

Canfield will next play at Crestview on Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
