CANFIELD GETS THE BEST OF THE FLASHES

Canfield stole the lead late and defeated Champion 11-4 on Friday. Canfield was down 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ben Slanker singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

The Cardinals earned the victory despite allowing Champion to score three runs in the first inning. The offensive firepower by Champion was led by Nathan Holt, Tyler Skaggs, and Collin Brainard, all driving in runs in the frame.

Champion opened up scoring in the first inning, when Holt drew a walk, scoring one run.

Canfield pulled away for good with seven runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth AJ Havrilla singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Landon Beidelchies singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, Dom Magliocca doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and Nate Shaw doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Jake Grdic led the the Cardinals to victory on the hill. Grdic allowed three hits and one run over four innings, striking out five. Alex Iannizzaro threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Jack O’Shaughnessy led things off on the mound for Champion. The pitcher surrendered seven runs on six hits over three and a third innings, striking out two.

Shaw started the game for Canfield. The righty went one inning, allowing three runs on zero hits and striking out two

Canfield collected ten hits. Havrilla and Chris Sammarone each collected multiple hits. Sammarone and Havrilla each collected two hits to lead.
