CANFIELD WALKS AWAY VICTORIOUS IN TOP BILLED MATCHUP

BELOIT OH- Ever since the schedule for 2022 came out, people have been talking about the Week 1 brawl between Canfield and West Branch. What was billed as one of the best quarterback duels the area has ever seen lived up to the hype all night long. Canfield

It was West Branch that grabbed control of the game early. On their second drive of the game Dru DeShields led them all the way down the field.  A three yard touchdown pass to Michael Kanagy capped off an 11 play drive.  DeShields ran the ball well on the scoring drive, finishing with 40 yards with his legs.

Broc Lowry would not be outdone though as he slashed his way to a 41 yard touchdown to tie up the game at 7-7.  West Branch would respond with another three yard touchdown pass from DeShields to make it 13-7.  Lowry’s legs struck yet again as he scampered in to the end zone to tie the game back up at 13.

The Warriors took the lead back quickly with a huge play. A short pass to Joey Jackson ended up a 79 yard touchdown.  The Warriors led yet again 19-13.

The end of the first half would be the turning point in the game. The Cardinals drive down inside the 10 yard line. West Branch held them to a field goal attempt, but a roughing the kicker penalty gave the Cardinals another chance at the end zone.  Lowry rumbled in for his third score of the night, and Canfield took a 21-19 lead into half.  Lowry would then claim his 4th score of the night to open the second half on a 8 yard touchdown run.  He wasn’t done, after a forced punt Lowry would cap off another drive with his 5th touchdown.

The Warriors would try a comeback as DeShields hit Jackson for another touchdown. They would need an onside kick to have a chance, but none other than Lowry scooped it up for Canfield.

Canfield hits the road again in Week 2 as they travel to Bellevue.  The Warriors stay at home next week to host Woodridge.
