CARDINALS FEND OFF EAST COMEBACK

CANFIELD, OH- The East Golden Bears traveled for a non-conference road game Friday night against Canfield. The Golden Bears had a big comeback late, but came up just short in the end.

The Canfield Cardinals had the more experienced team Friday night, having already played 10 games before the matchup against East. The Golden Bears didn’t let the young season affect them, as they came out to an early 19-17 lead after the first quarter. The Cardinals would make an adjustment with a 1-3-1 zone in the second quarter, holding East to 8 points in the quarter, and leading 37-27 at the break.

East came out and battled in the third quarter, and trailed by 7 heading into the final 8 minutes. In the fourth quarter, East was suffocating on defense, turning Canfield over left and right. In the final two minutes of the game, East trailed by 2 points, but was unable to make some key free throws down the stretch, and Canfield took a close one, 62-57.

Canfield once again was led by Trey Dye, who had 23 points, and was 13-17 from the charity stripe. East was led by John Clay and D.J. Waller, who each had 15 points. Waller knocked down 3 key three pointers in the contest, while Clay was able to drive and score all night.

Canfield improves to 4-7 on the year, and will face off against Hubbard Saturday night. East is now 2-3 on the season.
