CARDINALS SURVIVE OVERTIME TO SECURE DISTRICT CROWN

YOUNGSTOWN OH- Waterloo has a second straight district championship in mind on Friday night as they traveled to Youngstown to face Mooney. The Cardinals has other plans though, as they fought the Vikings to overtime and came away with a last second from Michael Pelini shot to win 58-55.

Waterloo was the one that hit the last shot of regulation, tying the game at 47 to send the game to overtime. Kyle Shockley hit the bucket for the Vikings. This bucket not only momentarily kept the Vikings season alive, but it also made Shockley the program’s all time leading scorer. Shockley finishes his career with 1,443 points. The previous record was 1,439 held by Eric Shiele.

Mooney was led by Pelini who finished the game with 24 points. Tommy Fire also put in 14 points for the Cardinals.

Shockley led the Vikings with a game-high 32 points.

Mooney advances to the Division III regional semifinals to play Lutheran East. That game is scheduled to take place at Twinsburg High School. Tip-off is set for 5:30.
