BOARDMAN CAPTURES DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP IN THRILLER

BOARDMAN, OH- In one of the wildest games you’ll ever witness, and despite trailing by six runs, Boardman staged a thrilling comeback to beat Canfield 11-9 on Monday at the Fields of Dreams and raising the 2024 District 2 Championship Banner.

Canfield jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Peyton Veres doubled, driving in two runs, followed by another run on a separate play. They extended their lead in the second with Jake Smith’s single and a dropped third strike by Boardman, each bringing in a run. In the third, Jake Kibby’s single made it 6-0.

Boardman fought back, tying the game at eight in the top of the sixth thanks to Evan Letendre’s groundout. They then took a 9-8 lead in the eighth when Dom Viglio singled to score a run. Canfield tied it up again in the bottom of the inning with a single from Jake.

In the top of the ninth, Boardman pulled ahead for good after an error by Canfield and an RBI single from Letendre, each scoring a run.

Chase Walker secured the win for Boardman, allowing one hit and no runs over 1 2/3 innings, striking out four. Mason Erjavic took the loss for Canfield, pitching 2 1/3 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on two hits, striking out six and walking four. Max Sutch started for Boardman, giving up six hits and six runs (five earned) over three innings, striking out seven and walking three. Mark Horvath was on the mound first for Canfield, allowing four hits and four runs (one earned) over 3 1/3 innings, striking out six and walking three. Mason McLelland threw 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief for Boardman, striking out five and walking three.

Chase Walker and Matthew Murphy each had two hits for Boardman. Andrew Marks, Evan, and Dom each drove in a run. Boardman showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks and playing error-free defense, with Evan handling 14 chances in the field.

Canfield collected 10 hits, with Peyton, Jake, Mason, and Jake each getting two. Peyton, Mason, and Jake each drove in two runs. Dom Nicastro led with three walks, and the team drew 11 walks overall.

SPARTANS OWN FIRST GAME AT STATE

ENGLEWOOD OH- The Boardman 12u squad won big over Portsmouth 10-0 on Saturday in their first game of the state tournament..

Boardman were the first to get on the board in the second when Benny Malaska hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

Boardman scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Harley Booms singled, scoring one run, Ricky Gozur singled, scoring one run, Gavin Sentner grounded out, scoring one run, and Dominic Italiano doubled, scoring two runs.

Jude Coffman earned the win for Boardman. He  allowed one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking none.

Italiano went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Boardman  in hits. Boardman didn’t commit a single error in the field. Jackson Kelty had the most chances in the field with six.

BOARDMAN LEAVES NO DOUBT; TAKES DISTRICT 2 CROWN

BOARDMAN OH- Boardman’s 12u baseball squad has been on a tear this week in the District 2 little league tournament. They came in to Monday night’s championship matchup with Poland undefeated and beating their opponents by a combined 28-0 in 2 games.  Coming off a 16-0 win over Poland to lock in their ticket, it was Poland they’d have to beat again to secure a title.  Boardman proved how good they were by cruising to a 12-2 win to take the district championship.

Chase Willis gets the credit for busting the doors wide open for Boardman’s offense. His two run double set the tone for the bats.  Willis would go on to turn in a 2-3 day with a triple, double, and 3 RBI.

BOARDMAN SETS UP DATE WITH AUSTINTOWN

BOARDMAN OH- In the night cap of softball at the Field of Dreams in Boardman it was Boardman who beats Poland 6-3 to move on in the winners bracket.

Emma Davies and Addie Fiddler were both solid on the mound scattering 4 hits over 6 innings. Watts went 2-3 with a RBI double. Davies, Torres, Rudiak and Seydlorsky also had hits.

Poland made things interesting in the final frame as they scored 3 runs and brought the game-winning run to the plate.  the inning was led off with back to back hits.  Francesca Schiavone drew a RBI walk, followed by another one from Kristina Kushner, and yet another one by Haritina Rohan.

Boardman will play Austintown Friday at 8:00pm to earn a trip to Ohio District 2 Little League Championship on July 3rd.  Poland will fight for survival against Howland at 6:00 on Friday night. Both games will be on field S2 at the Field of Dreams.

BOARDMAN 12U MAKES THEIR MARK; WALKS OFF POLAND TO WIN DISTRICT

BOARDMAN, OH- There was no lack of drama on Monday night, as just mere hours following the 11u matchup of their one-year younger respective all-star teams walked things off, so did the elder- statesman.

Boardman defeated Poland 3-2 on Tuesday thanks to a walk-off walk. The game was tied at two with Boardman batting in the bottom of the sixth when Alek Rudiak drew a walk, scoring the winning run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Donovan Whippo struck out three, while Zach Marantis sat down four.

Poland opened up scoring in the first inning, when Carson Martinucci grounded out, scoring Marantis.

Boardman powered ahead in the bottom half of the first, when Rocco Haas send a frozen rope over the left-field fence to put Boardman up 2-1.

Poland evened things up at two in the top of the fifth inning. Dom Dolloumo drove in one on a single.

Donovan Whippo earned the win for Boardman. The bulldog surrendered two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out three and walking zero.

Zachary Marantis took the tough-luck loss for Poland. The lefthander surrendered three runs on four hits over five innings, striking out four.

Drew Starkey, Rocco Haas, Alek Rudiak, and Drew Nemtz each collected one hit to lead Boardman. Boardman didn’t commit a single error in the field. Drew Starkey had five chances in the field, the most on the team.

Marantis led Poland with two hits in three at-bats.

Boardman will represent District 2 in the Regionals held in Elyria beginning this weekend.
