EAGLE WEAR WINS FIRST GAME IN EXTRA INNINGS

STRUTHERS, OH- Eagle Wear was searching for it’s first win of the 2022 campaign in the 16U Youngstown Class B Baseball League. It was a tough test against the top seed, the Whiting Roll-Offs, but Eagle Wear prevailed in extras to erase the win-less streak.

Eagle Wear got the first lead of the ballgame with Ben Barnes scoring 1 run in the first. Later on in the fourth inning, Whiting countered with 3 runs scored on 3 consecutive errors by the Eagle Wear defense. Although it was a huge momentum swing, Eagle Wear came right back to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Avery Maley started the rally with a single, followed by a double in the gap by Braeden Settnek. Eagle Wear led 4-3 heading into the final frame, until Joey Campoli led off the inning with a walk, and then Nathan Craig drove him in with an RBI single up the middle.

The ballgame went into extra frames, with Eagle Wear winning the ballgame in the bottom half of the eight inning. Maley drew a one out walk to get aboard, with Settnek moving him in scoring position with his second hit of the day. Eagle Wear brought up Matt Paparodis with the game winning run at second, and Paparodis would drive him in with an RBI single to win the game 5-4. Eagle Wear pulls off the upset bid and wins their first game of the season. Whiting still controls first place in the Livi Division with a record of 14-4.

AVALANCHE MAKE QUICK WORK OF CREEKSIDE

STRUTHERS OH- With a lot on the line for both teams in concerns with the standings, Avalanche left no doubt who put the best foot forward on Tuesday night. They made quick work of Creekside Fitness 12-2.

Santino Piccirilli had the most productive day at the plate for Avalanche. He went 2-3 on the day with 2 runs scored, and 4 RBI.  Aidan Bowser was a perfect 2-2 with a pair of RBI.  Noah Philson was also perfect at the plate finishing 3-3 with a walk, 3 runs scored and a pair of RBI.  Avalanche had yet another perfect night at the plate from Mark Cattron going 2-2 with a run scored and a RBI.

Their offense was partnered with tremendous pitching from Jack Strausser. He tossed 5 innings and gave up 1 earned run on 5 hits.  He struck out 6.

Jackson Cheeks gathered the only RBI of the day for Creekside. He went 1-2 on the day with a RBI.  Ryan Double was never retired at the plate going 1-1 on the day.  Tommy Smith went 1-2 with a walk, and a run scored.

KNIGHTLINE KNOCKS DOWN BALLISTIC

STRUTHERS OH- Knightline has been on some kind of tear in both the 16U and 18U divisions.  Tuesday night is Tim’s for the 16U’s though, and Knightline did not disappoint as they took down Ballistic Baseball 9-3.

Santino Cambotti put together a strong day at the plate for Knightline going 3-4 with 3 runs scored, and 1 RBI.  Aiden Thompson grabbed multiple hits going 2-4 with a run scored, and a RBI.  Dominic Ryan had the same numbers finishing 2-4 with a run scored, and a RBI.  Freddy Bolchalk managed a 1-2 day with a walk, 2 runs scored, and a RBI.

Andrew Brown tossed a solid game on the mound as well for Knightline. He threw 6 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits. He struck out an eye popping 11 batters.

Ethan Powell finished the game 1-3 for Ballistic, and he knocked in the only RBI of the day for the team. Tyler Wright went 1-2 with a run scored and a walk.  Anthony Roper had multiple hits on the day going 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

CREEKSIDE EARNS MUCH NEEDED VICTORY

STRUTHERS OH- Creekside came in to Thursday trying to stay in the top tier of the 16U division of Class B Baseball. They knew a win would get them much needed momentum heading towards the end of the regular season. It was a back and forth battle with Dura Edge, but Creekside came out on top 10-8.

Aaron Doughty came up big for Creekside going 1-3 with 2 RBI.  Andrew Brian used a perfect day at the plate to go 2-2.  He scored 2 runs, walked once, and knocked in a run.  Joe Balog led the top of the lineup with a 2-4 day with a RBI.

Jonathan Husband got the win on the hill. He threw 3 innings and gave up 3 runs on 7 hits.  He struck out a batter.

Paul Gubba continued to have an impressive summer going 1-3 with a RBI for Dura Edge. Zachary Ganser also went 1-3 with a RBI.  Matt Pallerino had a multiple hit day going 2-3 with 2 runs scored.  Michael Gushura also had multiple hits going 2-4.

Alex Eusebio went 2 innings for Dura Edge and took the loss. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits.  He struck out 3.  The pitching staff struck out 11 total on the day.

WHITING GETS A BOUNCE BACK WIN

STRUTHERS OH- After dripping their second game of the season on Tuesday, Whiting had to battle to get back in the win column on Thursday in a 9-8 victory over Prospects.

Isaac Barry had the most productive bat in the Whiting lineup as he went 1-4 with 2 RBI.  Ben Miller gathered multiple hits going 2-5 on the day with a RBI.  Kallen Durbin drew two walks and went 1-2, he also drove in a run.

 

Barry pitched well in his 5 innings of work on the hill for Whiting. He gave up just 2 earned runs on 2 hits. He struck out 5.

Mason Nawrocki had a solid day at the dish for Prospects going 2-3 with a RBI, and a run scored.  Dylan Simpson had multiple hits going 2-4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.  Carter Knupp also had a RBI for Prospects going 1-3 with a run scored.

Landon Turner did most of the work on the mound for Prospects. He gave up 6 earned runs on 8 hits in 5 innings pitched.  He managed to strike out 3.

AVALANCHE GAINS A GAME ON WHITING


STRUTHERS OH- In 16U action Tuesday night, the Avalanche used the momentum from a 5-run 3rd inning to boost them to a 6-2 victory over Whiting.

Nick Solderich came up big for the Avalanche at the plate and on the bases. He finished 1-3 with a run scored, 2 RBIs, and a stolen base. Andrew Gault put up a 500. effort at the plate going 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Soren Heddrick finished 1-2 on the day with a run scored, a walk, and 2 stolen bases. The Avalanche scored 6 runs on 8 hits, and finished with 5 RBIs as a team.

Noah Philson came in and got the win on the mound for the Avalanche. In his 4-2/3 IP, he surrendered 2 earned runs on 3 hits. He finished with 5 strikeouts on the day.

Ben Miller and Owen Keister both led Whiting at the plate. Miller went 1-2 with a run scored, a walk, and an RBI. Keister finished 1-3 on the day with an RBI. Whiting scored 2 runs on 4 hits, along with 3 walks and 2 RBIs as a team.

KNIGHTLINE HAD A NIGHT TO REMEMBER


STRUTHERS OH- In a pretty even 16U matchup between Knightline and Creekside, one run was all that was needed for Knightline Tuesday night. Although Creekside got the last run scored in the 6th, a 4 spot in the 3rd helped Knightline keep their lead and got them to a 6-5 victory over Creekside.

Dominic Ryan had a great day at the plate for Knightline. He went 1-2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Nate Freeland also went 1-2 on the day, he finished with a walk and an RBI. Both Aiden Thompson and Andrew Brown went 1-3 on the day for Knightline. Thompson finished with 2 RBIs. Brown finished with 2 runs scored and RBI. Knightline scored 6 runs on 6 hits, and finished with 4 walks and 6 RBIs as a team.

Andrew Brown got the win on the mound for Knightline. In his 3-2/3 IP, he gave up 3 earned runs on 5 hits. He struck out 6 on the day.

Both Joe Balog and Andrew Kali led Creekside at the plate and on the bases. Balog went 1-3 on the day with a stolen base, a walk, a run scored, and an RBI. Kali went 1-2 with 2 walks and 2 RBIs. Creekside scored 5 runs on 6 hits, along with 4 RBIs and 6 walks as a team.

Tommy Smith took the loss for Creekside. In his 2 IP, he surrendered 3 earned runs on 1 hit. He struck out 3 on the day.

ATHETIX GET UPPER HAND ON PROSPECTS

STRUTHERS OH- Athletix had all the right moves on Tuesday night as they worked their way to a 8-3 win over the Prospects in 16U action.

Dominic Phillips had a massive day at the plate driving in 4 runs on a 2-4 effort.  He also scored a run. Brendan Ray also went 2-4 and his efforts drove in 3 RBI.  Gabe Saunders drew 2 walks and collected a RBI in the process.  Luke Gehring also had multiple hits going a perfect 2-2.

Konnor Brogan got the win on the mound for Athletix.  He went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs on zero hits.  He did strike out 7 batters.

Luca Fronzaglio was able to collect 2 walks and get the only RBI of the day for Athletix. Carter Knupp had a 1-2 day.  Brian Litz walked and scored a run on the night.  Owen Boone also walked a scored a run.

FALCONS SOAR OVER DURA EDGE

STRUTHERS OH- It wasn’t much of a contest between Astro Falcons and Dura Edge on Tuesday night in 16U action at Bob Cene Park. The Falcons made quick work of the night with a dominating 15-0 victory.

Evan Tice put on a show for the high powered Falcon offense going 4-4 with a pair of RBI and a run scored.  Bo Fornataro went 3-4 on the night with another pair of RBI.  Jacob Hayes was a perfect 2-2 with 2 runs scored, and he added a RBI.  Grason Hooks also had multiple hits going 2-2 with a run scored and a RBI.  Marc Pieto went 1-2 with a walk, a run scored, and 2 RBI.

 

Shawn Kristophel was just as impressive on the hill for the Falcons he went 4 innings and gave up 0 runs on 2 hits. He struck out 8 and only walked 1.

Ethan Feezle was never retired going 1-1 with a walk on the day.  Carson Bish also collected a hit on the day going 1-2.  Charlie Young reached base with a walk as well.

BALLISTIC BLOWS THE DOORS OPEN

STRUTHERS OH- Ballistic Baseball came into Tuesday in a log jam in the middle of the 16U standings of Class B Baseball.  They took a big step forward by dominating Eagle Wear 10-0.

The offensive barrage was led by Cameron Foy who went a perfect 3-3 with 3 RBI.  Dom Elia also knocked in 3 RBI on a 2-3 day.  Alex Yoder finished the day 1-1 with a pair of RBI.  Nikolas Kyprianou also had multiple hits going 2-3 on the day.  Anthony Roper drew 2 walks to gather a RBI.

 

Tyler Wright pitched the shutout. He finished with 5 innings pitched and gave up no runs on 2 hits.  He struck out 7 and only walked 1.

Jacob Jenkins wasn’t retired on the day firvEagle Wear. He went 1-1.  David Murphy got the other Eagle Wear hit going 1-2.  Nathan May drew a walk for the Eagle Wear offense.
