RAIDER BATS TOO HOT TO HANDLE

BELOIT OH- Saturday was a long day for West Branch, falling to South Range 11-5.

West Branch got things moving in the first inning. The Warriors scored one run when Hunter Shields doubled.

In the bottom of the second inning, West Branch tied things up at four when Anthony Perry drew a walk, scoring one run.

South Range pulled away for good with one run in the third inning. In the third Gaven Nagy doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

The Warriors tallied three runs in the second inning. Aaron Tucker, Beau Alazaus, and Perry each drove in runs during the inning.

The Raiders scored five runs in the fifth inning. Nick Plunkett, Tyson Tarajack, Smesko, and Wardle all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Blake Jeffries earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for South Range. The righthander allowed four hits and four runs over four innings, striking out four. Joe Aey, Konnor Brogan, and Jake Shumate all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

Perry took the loss for the Warriors. The pitcher surrendered five runs on ten hits over three innings, striking out two and walking one.

Reed Williams went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead West Branch in hits.

South Range racked up 17 hits on the day. Plunkett, Shane Lindstrom, Tarajack, and Billy Skripac each collected multiple hits. Plunkett led the way with four hits in four at bats. The Raiders stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Plunkett led the way with three.

LEOPARDS FACE SATURDAY STRUGGLES

LOUISVILLE, OHIO-

Game1

Louisville fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 7-0 loss to GlenOak on Saturday.

The Leopards struggled to contain the high-powered offense of GlenOak, giving up seven runs.

Birchler was credited with the victory for GlenOak. The ace lasted seven innings, allowing nine hits and zero runs while striking out seven and walking zero.

The Leopards had nine hits in the game as Cooper Rice and Karson Siegfried each had multiple hits to lead the team at the plate.

Connor Morley was on the mound for the Leopards. The righthander went six innings, allowing six runs on ten hits, striking out five and walking one. 

Carter Deem and Bryce Graziani entered the game as relief, throwing two-thirds of an inning and one-third of an inning respectively. Louisville would later play Revere in their second matchup of the day. 

Game 2:

The Louisville Leopards stayed in it until the end, but Revere pulled away late in a 6-5 victory on Saturday.

Revere was down 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning when Wilson Clark doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring three runs.

The Leopards racked up seven hits in the game as Ty Paumier and Zach Root each collected multiple hits, but Paumier led the Leopards at the plate  with three hits in three at bats.

Zach Root led things off on the mound for the Leopards. The righthander lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and five runs while striking out three. Carter Deem and Grayson Brunoni entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one and one-third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.

Devin Donich went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Revere in hits and AJ Hall was the winning pitcher for Revere. The fireballer surrendered three runs on four hits over three innings, striking out three. Ang Levak and Geoffrey Siess entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

The Leopards will try and bounce back after losing two games on the day when they take on the Dukes of Marlington on Monday at home.

HOWLAND MAKES THE MOST OUT OF THEIR CHANCES

MIDDLEFIELD, OHIO – Howland and Cardinal had fans on the edge of their seats Friday night with a close game that provided some runs late in the ballgame as Howland held on for a razor thin 3-2 win.

The top of the sixth inning started with Howland trailing 2-1. After plating a run to make it 2-2, Bode Biggin grounded out which led to a run being scored to make it 3-2.

Both sides got very good pitching performances, but Howland’s Anthony Marimpietri came out as the winning pitcher. Marimpietri gave his ballclub a performance of five innings, allowing three hits and two runs, striking out five Cardinal batters.

Robert Gumino led the Tigers in hits as he went two-for-four with a bat in his hand. It took six hits for Howland to post their three runs. The final line for Cardinal was two runs on five hits with both runs coming in the bottom of the fifth inning. Each team was a bit sloppy in the field defensively as they committed four errors.

JFK HAS A FUN FRIDAY

WARREN, OHIO – A great way to put yourself in a good position to secure a win is jumping on your opponent early and asserting yourself as the superior team.

Three runs in the bottom of the first inning was how JFK did just that in their 8-0 victory over Champion on Friday. The display on offense was powered by a handful of guys throughout the JFK lineup like Dominic Ryan, Hettrick-Carfangia, Santino Ciambotti, and Jaden Rishel, who each had RBIs in their big four run fourth inning.

Rishel pitched a gem of a game for JFK and came out as the winning pitcher. Rishel’s outing lasted six innings as he allowed just one hit and zero runs and sitting down five Champion batters through strikeouts. To finish with the eight runs,

JFK floated in 13 hits five five players going for multi-hit performances, showing a good balance throughout their lineup. Each team committed two errors in the field. 

ST JOHNS SEVERINO SHOWCASES CLUTCH HITTING IN BACK TO BACK WINS

East Palestine, OH- A walk-off home run propelled Saint John Heralds Baseball to a dramatic victory over Grand Valley Mustangs , 4-3 in game one of a Saturday double header. Saint John  trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the 11th inning when Anthony Severino homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs. Grand Valley Mustangs got on the board in the third inning. An error scored one run for   the Mustangs. Will Anderson was on the hill for the Heralds. Anderson went seven and a third innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out ten. Justin Hagan was on the pitcher’s mound for Grand Valley. The hurler went five innings, allowing one run on five hits, striking out four and walking one. Casey Turner and Eric Ellsworth entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three innings and two and two-thirds innings respectively. Saint John tallied one home run on the day and it could not have come at a bigger moment. Severino’s bomb in the eleventh inning cemented the victory for the Heralds. Saint John racked up ten hits. Anderson, Jesus Hernandez, Aaron Wychock, and Severino each racked up multiple hits for the Heralds. Anderson led the Saint John Heralds with three hits in six at bats. John Foss went 2-for-6 at the plate to lead the Grand Valley Mustangs in hits.

With gas still in the tank Saint John secured the lead late in the game in a 14-10 victory over the Grand Valley Mustangs on Saturday in game 2 of a double header. The game was tied at ten with the Heralds batting in the bottom of the sixth when for the second time of the day Anthony Severino answered the call by hitting a single on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. Saint John collected 13 hits and Grand Valley had eight in the run heavy affair. The Mustangs fired up the offense in the first inning, when Casey Turner singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Grand Valley also scored three runs in the fourth inning. Grand Valley’s big inning was driven by singles by Blake Taylor and Justin Hagan. Matt Miller started the game for the Saint John Heralds. Miller allowed four hits and three runs over two innings, striking out five and walking zero. Eric Ellsworth was on the pitcher’s mound for Grand Valley Mustangs. The Mustang surrendered three runs on four hits over two and a third innings, striking out one. Austin Hall, Justin Hagan, and Trenton Murduck each contributed in relief for Grand Valley Mustangs at various points in the game. Saint John collected 13 hits. Ryan Williams, Miller, Severino, and Ezra Campbell all managed multiple hits for Saint John Heralds Varsity Baseball. Williams led Saint John Heralds Varsity Baseball with three hits in four at bats. Hagan went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Grand Valley Mustangs in hits. Grand Valley didn’t commit a single error in the field. Kamden Cottrell had the most chances in the field with eight. The Heralds will take the field again Monday 5/08/23 against NAC opponent Pymatuning Valley and Grand Valley is set to face off against CVC for Middlefield Cardinal on Monday as well.

CLIPPERS WIN BACKYARD BRAWL

COLUMBIANA OH- Columbiana put up six runs in the second on its way to a 10-3 victory over Heartland Christian on Friday. Columbiana batters contributing to the big inning included Dylan Hogan, Anthony Hall, Blake Nusser, and Ian Less, all driving in runs.

The Clippers opened up scoring in the second inning, when Hogan singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

Alex Eusebio was the winning pitcher for Columbiana. The righthander lasted six innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out seven. Hall threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Will Morgan took the loss for Heartland Christian. Morgan surrendered six runs on three hits over two and a third innings, walking zero.

Columbiana saw the ball well today, racking up eight hits in the game. Maxx Grommes, Hogan, and Bayden Pipoly each managed multiple hits. Hogan and Grommes each collected three hits to lead. The Clippers stole six bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Grommes led the way with two. Columbiana was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Colin Keleman made the most plays with nine.

Jake Walker led Heartland Christian. with two hits in four at bats. Drew Gault led Heartland Christian with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five stolen bases.

RESERVE AND SPRINGFIELD PLAY A MARATHON DOUBLE HEADER

STRUTHERS OH- Western Reserve and Springfield traded the lead back-and-forth on Friday, but eventually the Blue Devils prevailed 9-8. The game was tied at eight with Western Reserve batting in the top of the tenth when an error scored one run.

There was plenty of action on the basepaths as Western Reserve collected 11 hits and Springfield had ten.

Springfield opened up an early lead in the first inning when Jackson Ensley was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.

Springfield knotted the game up at eight in the bottom of the eighth inning. They scored one run when Vinny Woods singled.

Hunter Stacy was the winning pitcher for the Blue Devils. The lefty surrendered zero runs on two hits over two innings, striking out four and walking zero. Evan Slaven threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Parker Dobson took the loss for Springfield. The hurler went two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out two.

Vance Story started the game for Western Reserve. Story went five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out four.

Braden Butler started the game for Springfield. The bulldog went seven and a third innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out three

The Blue Devils racked up 11 hits on the day. Stacy and Slaven each had multiple hits. Slaven and Stacy each collected two hits to lead. Western Reserve stole ten bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Stacy led the way with four.

Springfield saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game. Seandelle Gardner, Woods, and Ryan Matey each collected multiple hits. Gardner went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Springfield in hits. Springfield tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Gardner led the way with four.

Game 2:

Western Reserve weathered a push by Springfield in the sixth inning where they coughed up three runs, but Western Reserve still won 9-4 on Friday.

Western Reserve got things moving in the first inning, when Hunter Stacy singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

After Springfield scored three runs in the top of the sixth, the Blue Devils answered with three of their own. Springfield scored on a single on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run and drawing a walk, scoring one run. Western Reserve then answered when Stacy singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.

Western Reserve pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third Jack Darney singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run and Stacy’s sac fly scored one run.

Stacy was credited with the victory for the Blue Devils. Stacy went three innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out two and walking one.

PITCHING PAVES THE WAY FOR URSULINE

STRUTHERS , OHIO – Pitching is the name of the game. The longer a pitcher can go into a game and do it efficiently gives you a great chance to earn a win.

Tom Groner was as sharp as a tack Friday for Ursuline as he shut down the United offense on the way to a 3-0 final score. On the mound, Groner allowed just one hit and no runs with six strikeouts and one base on balls and of course came out as the games winning pitcher.

Gage Smith pitched well for United, but was out dueled by Groner and only went four and two-third innings.

Ursuline never trailed throughout the ballgame, and they took the lead early on in the bottom of the first inning as a run scored on an error by United. Ursuline then added on one run in each the third inning and the fifth to add up to their three runs in the game. Luca Ricchiuti led the Irish in hits with two in his two plate appearances. Andrew Kirila had the lone run batted in for Ursuline.

The Irish will next get ready for a quick turnaround, 10:00 a.m. first pitch with Hoover at home on Saturday.

HUBBARD TAKES ONE AGAINST CONFERENCE LEADERS

CORTLAND, OHIO- The Hubbard Eagles snagged a late lead and defeated the Lakeview Bulldogs 6-5 on Friday. The game was tied at three with the Eagles batting in the top of the fifth when Alex Yoder singled on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs.

After being down 3-2, the Eagles evened things up at three in the top of the fourth inning when Ryan Murray grounded out, scoring one run. After the Eagles scored one run in the top of the second, the Bulldogs answered with one of their own.

The Eagles then scored again when Ryan Murray singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. The Bulldogs then answered right back when Matthew DeProfio singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Tyler Wright earned the victory on the mound for the Eagles as the righthander allowed eight hits and five runs over six innings, striking out four and walking one.  Braydon Songer threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Alex Stowe was on the mound for the Bulldogs as he lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing nine hits and six runs while striking out one. Tyler Capan threw two and a third innings out of the bullpen.

Hubbard will return to play when they take on Struthers on Monday as Lakeview will take on Harding on Saturday.

CARDINALS PITCHING STAYS ON FIRE TO CLINCH AAC

STRUTHERS, OHIO- Michael Patellis had all the right stuff on Friday for Canfield, allowing zero runs and besting Austintown-Fitch by a score of 1-0 as Canfield also clinched the AAC outright with the victory.

The pitching was strong on both sides as Patellis struck out 11, while Jack Knight sat down six.

The Cardinals got on the board in the first inning when they scored one run when Ben Slanker singled. Slanker also led the Cardinals at the plate going 2 for 3.

Patellis earned the win on the mound as he lasted seven innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out 11 and walking one.

Knight took the loss for Austintown-Fitch. Knight lasted six innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out six.

Canfield will return to the diamond when they travel to Salem on Monday. Austintown-Fitch will take on Ursuline at home on Monday.
