WYCHOCK’S PERFECT DAY AT THE PLATE FUELS HUGE HERALDS WIN

East Palestine, OH- Aaron Wychock’s 4 hits and 5 RBIs helped lead the way for the Saint John Heralds over the Lordstown Red Devils 22-2 on Wednesday.  Wychock singled in the first, singled in the second, doubled in the fourth, and singled in the fifth. The Heralds got things started in the first inning when Anthony Severino singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Saint John scored eight runs in the second inning.  The Heralds big bats were led by Ezra Campbell, Wychock, Will Anderson, Ryan Williams, and Bryson Vennitti, who all drove in runs.

Senior Jesus Hernandez started on the mound for Saint John going two innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four and walking zero. Saint John racked up 14 hits on the day.  Wychock, Anderson, and Campbell each had multiple hits for the  Heralds.  Wychock went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Saint John in hits.  Severino led Saint John with two stolen bases, as they owned the base paths with seven stolen bases. The Heralds will host the Bristol Panthers in another NAC battle on 05/11/23 at Smith Field in Ashtabula.

LESS EQUALS MORE IN NO-HITTER OVER LISBON

COLUMBIANA, OH- Ian Less was brilliant on the mound on Wednesday, as Less threw a no-hitter to lead Columbiana past Lisbon 17-0.

The Clippers got things started in the first inning when Less singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.

Columbian put up six runs in the fourth inning. The Clippers’ offense in the inning came from fielder’s choices by Bayden Pipoly and Devin Daugherty, a triple by Less, a single by Maxx Grommes, and an error on a ball put in play by Reese Roush.

Less took the win for Columbiana with the no-no. The righty surrendered zero runs on zero hits over five innings, striking out five.

Gage Owens took the loss for the Blue Devils. The pitcher went four innings, allowing 17 runs on 16 hits, striking out two, and walking zero.

Columbiana collected 16 hits on the day. Colin Keleman, Daugherty, Less, Max Conway, and Alex Eusebio each collected multiple hits for the team. Conway, Less, Daugherty, and Keleman all had three hits to lead the Clippers.

FITCH TESTS THEIR LUCK; UPEND URSULINE

AUSTINTOWN, OH- The Fitch Falcons grabbed an early lead on its way to a 9-5 victory over Ursuline on Wednesday. The Falcons scored on a single by Jack Knight in the first inning, a double by Donavan Bell-Sullivan in the first inning, and a single by Jackson Cheeks in the second inning.

Ursuline scored three runs in the fourth inning, but Fitch still managed to pull out the victory. The Irish scored its runs on a home run by Jack Ericson.

Fitch scored four runs in the fifth inning. The Falcons’ big inning was driven by a single by Drew Kaschak and a double by Cheeks.

Mason Petridis was credited with the victory for Austintown-Fitch. The pitcher allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings, striking out seven. Knight threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Knight recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Falcons.

Tom Groner took the loss for Ursuline. The righty surrendered five runs on six hits over three and a third innings, striking out four.

The Falcons racked up 11 hits. Bell-Sullivan, Cheeks, and Knight all managed multiple hits for Fitch. Bell-Sullivan went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Austintown-Fitch was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Jake Wallace made the most plays with nine.

Ursuline racked up ten hits on the day. Ericson, Luca Ricchiuti, and Anthony Triveri all collected multiple hits for the Irish.

PATELLIS SHINES AGAINST SPARTANS

BOARDMAN, OH- Despite allowing four runs in the second inning, Canfield defeated Boardman 7-4 on Wednesday. The offensive onslaught by Boardman was led by Charlie Young and Kaden Mayhew, all driving in runs in the frame.

Boardman captured the lead in the second inning. An error scored one run for Boardman.

The Cardinals took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth an error scored one run for Canfield, AJ Havrilla singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, and Luke Leonard induced Zain Jadallah to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Michael Patellis pitched the Cardinals to victory. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing one hit and four runs while striking out five. Jameson Beck threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Leonard took the loss for Boardman. Leonard went five and a third innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and walking one.

Patellis went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Canfield in hits.

MOHAWK BATS COME UP SHY AGAINST SHENANGO

SHENANGO, PA- Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound on Wednesday, but Shenango was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Mohawk on Wednesday. Vinny Pezzuolo started the game for the Warriors and recorded 15 outs.

One bright spot for the Warriors was a single by Jay Wrona in the first inning.

Zach Herb was credited with the victory for the Wildcats. The ace surrendered zero runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Pezzuolo took the loss for Mohawk. The hurler allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out five.

Wrona, J.J. Nail, Mason Hopper, and Jacob Werner each collected one hit to lead Mohawk.. The Warriors were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. A.J. Verdi made the most plays with five.

Shenango had six hits in the game. Braeden DAngelo and Braden Zeigler all managed multiple hits for Shenango Varsity Wildcats.

WARRIORS SPLIT THE SERIES WITH THE BADGERS

East Palestine, OH- Edgewood Warriors baseball got out to a six-run lead in the second inning and held on for a 6-5 victory over Berkshire on Tuesday.  Berkshire scored five runs in the failed comeback on a single by Jacobs, a error, and a triple by Martin. Berkshire scored five runs in the seventh inning, but the Edgewood Warriors still managed to pull out the victory.  Jacobs, Brancel, and Martin all contributed in the big inning with RBIs. The Warriors Varsity got things moving in the second inning.  Riley Baldwin drew a walk, scoring one run. Logan Kray was on the mound for the Edgewood Warriors. The pitcher lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing just two hits and five runs while striking out ten.

Janssen manned the mound for Berkshire. Janssen went seven innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out ten. Edgewood had eight hits in the game.  Kray and Tony Hall each managed multiple hits for the Warriors.  Juniors Tony Hall and Logan Kray all had two hits to lead Edgewood from the batter’s box. This win splits the series between the Badgers and the Warriors as the Warriors fell to Berkshire on Monday. Edgewood will start their OHSAA tournament at home Monday against the Howland Tigers in 11 vs 14 seed battle.

HERALDS GRAB ANOTHER NAC WIN

East Palestine, OH- The Saint John Heralds asserted their will over the Mathews Mustangs on their way to an 8-2 victory. Saint John tallied four runs in the sixth inning. Will Anderson and Ryan Williams each had RBIs in the big inning. Williams controlled the mound for the Heralds allowing just two hits and no earned runs over six innings while striking out nine.

Tyler Pesa was on the pitcher’s mound for the Mustangs. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on eight hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out eight. Jake Williams threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Saint John racked up nine hits on the day. Anderson and Tom Miller all had multiple hits for the Heralds. Anderson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Saint John in hits. Saint John is set for another conference battle vs Bristol on Thursday 05/11/23 home at Smith Field in Ashtabula at 5pm.

 

RAIDERS KEEP THEIR FOOT ON GIRARD

CANFIELD OH- South Range defeated Girard 10-0 on Tuesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Jake Shumate got Jake Dohy to hit into a fielder’s choice to finish off the game.

South Range got things moving in the first inning, when Blake Jeffries drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Raiders put up three runs in the fifth inning. Shane Lindstrom, Billy Skripac, and Jeffries each drove in runs during the inning.

One bright spot for Girard was a single by Cameron Herrick in the fourth inning.

Joe Aey was the winning pitcher for South Range. The righthander allowed two hits and zero runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six. Shumate threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Dominik Tolone started the game for Girard. Tolone lasted four and a third innings, allowing eight hits and ten runs while striking out six.

South Range collected eight hits. Wardle, Jeffries, and Tyson Tarajack all had multiple hits. Wardle led their offense with three hits in three at bats. The Raiders stole eight bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Wardle led the way with two.

CANFIELD WINS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED MATCHUP

SALEM OH- Canfield claimed a 10-7 victory on Monday, despite a big push by Salem in the sixth inning. Salem offense in the inning was led by Colin Reisen, Gavin Wilms, and Lance Bailey, all driving in runs in the frame.

Bats blistered as Canfield collected 11 hits and Salem tallied eight in the high-scoring game.

The Cardinals got on the board in the first inning when Ben Slanker doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.

Canfield pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Zain Jadallah singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Logan Cayavec singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Noah Anzevino got the win for Canfield. Anzevino went three innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out four. Scottie Eaton and Stephen Maszczak entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Riesen took the loss for Salem. The bulldog went five and a third innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits and striking out three.

Canfield scattered 11 hits in the game. Ethan Prout, Jadallah, and Cayavec all managed multiple hits. Jadallah and Prout each collected three hits to lead the way.

Salem tallied eight hits. Carson Rhodes, Anthony Colian, and Riesen all collected multiple hits for Salem.

A WILD ONE FOR MINERAL RIDGE

MINERAL RIDGE, OHIO- After being down 11-3, the Mineral Ridge Rams pulled off the improbable comeback to beat the Lowellville Rockets 14-13.

The Rams scored three runs in the fifth, led by a two run home run by Jackson Geddes, three runs sixth innings, plus another four runs in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory.

At the plate the Rams were led by Triston Valley, who had three hits, Gino Novello and Trey Rigley, who had two hits each.

The winning pitcher of the day was Xavier Klamer, who allowed five hits, four runs, and sat down seven batters. Klamer also knocked home the winning run of the game.

The losing pitcher of the day was Dylan Okular, who pitched a beauty allowing three hits, four runs, and had four strikeouts before being relieved by Cody Nolfi and Brady Bunofsky. The pair of relief pitchers allowed a combined total of seven hits, 10 runs, and four strikeouts.

The Rams will look for another big win when they take on Sebring on Wednesday as the Rockets will look to bounce back when they take on Western Reserve on Wednesday.
