QUAKERS SPARE A WIN OVER ALLIANCE

ALLIANCE OH- Salem’s boys and girls bowling teams both rolled to wins Wednesday night against Alliance. The boys dominated, taking down the Aviators 2172-1515, while the girls cruised to a 1462-895 victory.

On the boys’ side, Keegan Sommers led the charge with a 458 series, including a high game of 247. Connor Hippley was right on his heels, posting a 456 series and a 235 game to keep the momentum going.

For the girls, Brooklynn Herold paced the team with a 365 series, highlighted by a 202 game. Kylie Smith added a solid 321 series with a 161 game to round out the effort.

 

FUNK FINDS A HOME AT ADELPHI

Boardman, OH-  Marissa Funk commits to Adelphi University in Long Island. 

Exceptional Spartan Bowler, senior Marissa Funk, has committed to extend her athletic and academic career at Adelphi University in Long Island.  Funk has earned quite the resume while at Boardman, with being a member of the State Championship Team in 2024 sitting at the top.  Funk is a 3 time AAC All Conference team member, voted AAC Player of the Year last season, has been named to 10 All-Tournament Teams and is a 2 time All-Northeast District Team member. 

Marissa carries a lifetime average of 198.5, and is currently carrying an impressive 214 average in her senior season.  This 3 time state qualifier and 2 time All-Ohioan has another trip to Columbus at the top of her goals for 2025. Coach Justine Cullen is excited for where the season will take Marissa and her teammates, calling Marissa’s work ethic ‘unmatched’,  and is impressed by everything Marissa makes time to be involved in .  

 

When not at the bowling alley, Marissa can be found participating in Little Steamers, Envirothon, National Honor Society and Big Spartan Little Spartan

GREENAWAY TO BOWL FOR PENGUINS

Boardman, OH-  Kaitlyn Greenaway will continue bowling excellence at YSU.

Spartan Bowling standout, senior Kaitlyn Greenaway, has committed to extend her athletic career at Youngstown State University. Greenaway carries a large resume, but sitting at the top is the accomplishment of 2024 Division 1 Individual State Champion. Greenaway was instrumental in the Boardman Team State Championship in 2024 as well, voted Division 1 Bowler of the Year in the State of Ohio. Greenaway is a 3 time AAC All Conference team member, AAC Player of the Year, has been named to 11 All-Tournament Teams and is a 3 time All-Northeast District Team member. Kaitlyn carries a lifetime average of 202, and is currently carrying a 203 average in her senior season. This 3 time state qualifier and 3 time All-Ohioan has her sights set on another State appearance.

Coach Cullen describes Kaitlyn as, “A true leader, dominant player and always steps up. Since she was a 14 year old freshman, this team has looked up to her.” When not at the bowling alley, Kaitlyn can be found participating in Emerging Leaders, National Honor Society and Italian Club. Congratulations, Kaitlyn — we are SPARTAN PROUD!🎳

GREENAWAY NAMED BOWLER OF THE YEAR

BOARDMAN OH- The OHSBCA Board of Directors has selected Boardman junior Kaitlyn Greenaway as the 2023-2024 Ohio High School Division 1 Bowler of the Year. Greenaway is the first athlete in Boardman’s school history to earn this award. This makes Greenaway the sectional champion, individual state champion, team state champion and Ohio bowler of the year.  She was voted to first team all Northeast District as well and was an Academic All-Ohioan this year.  Greenaway reached all milestones this season while maintaining a 207 average.

POTTERS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT BUCKEYE 8

ST CLAIRSVILLE OH- East Liverpool’s girls bowling team continued another fantastic season on Thursday night as they dominated their way to a third straight Buckeye 8 championship.

East Liverpool bowlers dominated the field. The Potters finished with a total of 2,690, which was first by a long shot. The next closest team was Harrison Central and they bowled a 2,256.  Addison Rudibaugh bowled rounds of 181, 234, and 201, Making her total first on the leader board with a 616.   Paige Grimes was right behind her on the leader board with a total of 420 (184, 123, 113)  Dani Riggle bowled a 419 (129, 134, 156). Lani Rudibaugh bowled to a total of 371 (119, 142, 110).  Rounding out the Potters in the top 10 was was Mollie Pettrie with a total of 356 (121, 107, 128).

POTTERS STRONG START CONTINUES

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- The East Liverpool boys and girls bowling teams showcased their dominance as they secured a comprehensive sweep against Wheeling Park in Monday’s matchup. The Potter girls continued their stellar season with a perfect 5-0 record, securing a convincing 1,865-1,618 victory at Walnut Lanes.

Addison Rudibaugh led the charge for the Potter girls, delivering impressive performances with games of 215 and 188, accumulating a strong 403 series. Mollie Petrie contributed to the success with games of 180 and 138, resulting in a commendable 318 series.

The East Liverpool boys also emerged victorious with a solid 2,228-2,198 scoreline, bringing their season record to 3-2. Jayden McDole showcased his bowling prowess, recording games of 200 and 204 for an impressive 404 series. Jordan Wolf added to the triumph with games of 199 and 194, securing a solid 393 series for the Potters.

Looking ahead, East Liverpool anticipates their next challenge as they prepare to face Brooke on Monday, continuing their pursuit of success on the bowling lanes.

POTTERS PICK UP OPENING SEASON SWEEP OF SOUTHERN

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- In a dominating performance at Walnut Lanes, East Liverpool’s bowling teams secured a clean sweep against Southern Local on Monday. The boys’ team triumphed with a score of 2,049-1,470, led by standout performances from Jordan Wolf, who rolled impressive games of 223 and 215 for a total series of 438.

Meanwhile, the Potter girls asserted their dominance with a convincing 1,948-1,401 victory. Addison Rudibaugh led the charge for the East Liverpool girls, showcasing her skill with games of 182 and 237, accumulating a solid 419 series.

On the Southern Local side, Rawlings posted a notable 156 game and a two-game series of 282, demonstrating resilience in the face of East Liverpool’s strong showing. Kennedy Lewis contributed for Southern with a 139 game and a 243 series.

Looking ahead, the Potters have their sights set on the next challenge, as they prepare to host John Marshall on November 30. The momentum from this decisive win will undoubtedly fuel their determination in the upcoming match.

BOWLED OVER: BOARDMAN GIRLS GO FOR STATE TITLE

BOARDMAN, OH- Imagine starting your career in bowling at the high school level, and sweeping through the conference championships for the entirety of your career- all four years.

Now add not losing a match from the time you’re a sophomore through your senior year.

Perhaps throw in three sectional championships, a district title, and finish top 10 in the state for 3 consecutive years.

Meet the Boardman Lady Spartan Bowling Team.  They’ve done all that and are shooting for more.

Led by Justine Cullen, the Lady Spartans are on a mission and are stronger and more determined than they’ve ever been.  With tutelage from a professional bowler, Danielle McEwan before their state championship, the girls feel like they’re knocking down all the pins in life right now.

We caught up with Grace Oklata, Sam Hoffman, Kaitlyn Greenaway, and Marissa Funk after practice to talk about what this ride has been like.

BOARDMAN LIGHTS UP THE LANES OVER HOWLAND

BOARDMAN, OH- The Boardman keglers defeated the Howland Tigers by a score of 2358-1989 on Wednesday at Boardman Lanes.

The match medalist for the Spartans was Kaitlyn Greenaway, shooting games of 211 and 203 for a 414 set. Behind her was teammate Sam Hoffman, rolling games of 163 and 246 for a 409 set.

Other contributors for the Spartans were Grace Oklota with games of 180 and 200 for a 380 set, Alayna Turillo with games of 168 and 168 for a 336 set, and Marissa Funk with games of 191 and 138 for a 329 set.

The leading scorer for Howland was Gillian McMurray, shooting games of 260 and 129 for a 389 set.

GIRARD’S TRAUTMAN ROLLS TO NEXT LEVEL

GIRARD, OH- Girard senior Heidi Trautman announced this morning that she will continue her academic and athletic careers at Kent State University, Trumbull Campus.

Trautman has been a leader on the Indian Bowling team, and will certainly look to keep her talent going at the next level.

Congratulations to Heidi, her family, and the Girard Bowling Team for their success over the last 4 years.  We wish you strikes aplenty at KSU-Trumbull.
