THE DON OF A NEW ERA

For as long as anyone can remember in Cene Park, it’s been all eyes on a handful of teams.  The Astro Falcons, Levi Steel, and Youngstown Express just to name a few.

There looks to be a new sheriff in town, though.  With Baird Brothers jumping out to a fast start and setting the Pace in the Goldstone Division, their 18U manager, Don Pletcher is after highly sought after talent with even higher character.  It’s more than a game to Pletcher, whose team sits at 14-2, and still has a small handful of players that have yet to arrive due to high school playoffs.

Although “Pletch” likes to keep it loose in the dugout, and on social media with his guys, there’s an understanding that at the end of the day: there’s a job to do.

We sat down with Coach Pletcher, and discussed how things are being shaken up on the fields at Cene Park.

This Week’s Youngstown Class B Coach’s Corner (Powered by Baird Brothers): The Don of a New Era.

WIN AND JUICE

You see a lot of things in 25 years of coaching in the Youngstown Class B League.  From historic championship seasons to years that wins are few and far between.  As James Earl Jones says in Field of Dreams, “The one constant through all the years has been baseball.”  The one constant for the better part of three decades in the B League has been Tommy “Juice” Otto.  While names and faces have come and gone, Juice has marked the times, and been able to impact those that cross his path for years to come.

We had a chance to catch up with Juice after his USSSA Championship with Knightline, and we talked about past, present, and future plans in this episode of Class B Coach’s Corner, proudly sponsored by Baird Brothers.
