MINERAL RIDGE OH- Mineral Ridge volleyball is one of the few teams in the area that is returning a huge percentage of the core group that made them successful a year ago.  That’s why a lot of eyes are locked on to the Rams this season. Don’t worry though, they flourish in the limelight.  The senior class is hungry to make their mark one last time on the program before they graduate. They’re also doing wonders in developing the future of the program for after they leave. Ron Lesko is back for another year as head coach of the team, and there’s no where he’d rather be.  Mineral Ridge promises to be one of the premiere teams in the area when the it’s all said and done.

EAST LIVERPOOL OH- Beaver Local has been gearing up all summer long for another impressive volleyball season.  They have a solid mix of strong leadership and talented youth. After last season when Beaver Local had to find ways to replace one of the best senior classes in the program’s history. That season has given everyone on their roster a step up in experience. Now they will use it to mix up a great season.  Sarah Lowe is one of the most well respected coaches in the YSN family.  She comes back to lead the Beavers through another journey.

HOWLAND VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH AMANDA FLOREK

HOWLAND OH- Consistency is key into building a strong program, and usually it has to start at the top.  At Howland there are no worries about a consistent culture from head coach Amanda Florek.  Entering her 13th season as the head coach of the Tigers she brings experience that not too many teams in the area have. With years comes knowledge, and Florek has been through it all at Howland. So the graduation of a few key pieces in the Tigers rotation shouldn’t shy people away from thinking Howland will be successful. They still have a solid core coming back, and some bright young talent looking to take the next step in their journey.  It’s not wise to sleep on the big cats in the jungle, and Howland might prove why this season.

CANFIELD OH- South Range volleyball has a lot of excitement building in their program. This a season that can build a legacy for long lasting success. The Raiders feature a rare mix of proven, tested, and solid leadership from their senior class and young hungry talent that’s ready to compete right now.  For the first time in a couple of seasons you can feel the energy in the Raiders gym for volleyball.  Head coach TJ Irons continues his return to the sport with another year at the helm. With a dedicated and knowledgeable coaching staff behind him, he has the tools to mold this Raider team into a serious contender.

CARDINAL MOONEY VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH TONI CHAHINE

YOUNGSTOWN OH- We have heard quite a bit from Toni Chahine over the last calendar year.  Not only is she returning for another year coaching Mooney’s volleyball team, but we also caught up with her during lacrosse season. Every conversation the same message comes across clearly. Mooney will compete like crazy under coach Chahine.  Mooney Volleyball this season will be no different. With a ton of seasoned talent on their roster mixed in with some impressive height, Mooney will be a tough team to knock out of the gym.  They also carry with them a monster schedule full of upper division teams that will prepare them more than most for their postseason.

LAKEVIEW VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH HEATHER GUTHRIE

CORTLAND OH- Lakeview has seen an era of prosperity inside their volleyball program in the recent past. They’ve been one of the more dominant programs in the area for years.  Last season was one of their best as they were led by a great senior class that was part of 3 league championships.  Those seniors have now graduated and all eyes are on what’s next for the Bulldogs.  If you ask head coach Heather Guthrie however, there is no cause for alarm. It’s true that there may be a new look to the Bulldogs this season, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be successful.  They bring hungry young talent that are anxious to prove that Lakeview has a lasting program.

EAST PALESTINE VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH JOHN BISTARKEY

EAST PALESTINE OH- Are you ready for a blast from the past? In East Palestine that is the name of the game in their volleyball program.  John Bistarkey who coached the Bulldogs from 2002-2007 saw an opportunity to come back in to the fold this season to return as head coach.  Bistarkey says that this might be the most talented team he has coached. That’s reason for excitement in Bulldog country.  He is trying to instill a winning culture and confidence into this talented riddled team.  If he succeeds East Palestine could be a big discussion point in the EOAC picture.

John Bistarkey took some time to talk with YSN’s Anthony Hartwig. He gave a great look inside what East Palestine might look like this season. EDGEWOOD VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH KYRA VENCILL

ASHTABULA OH- Edgewood is one of the hallmark athletic programs of Ashtabula county.  That doesn’t change during volleyball season for sure. They have one of the strongest defenses you’ll find in the area, and that’s because of the experience they carry in the back row.  As far as their power on the net goes, they still have plenty of talent to contend with when you’re looking across the net at them.  Kyra Vencill has the reigns of the volleyball program again, and that makes just another member of the Vencill family in the Edgewood coach’s room.  She spends almost every day of the year coaching some kind of volleyball. Edgewood will use her experience to navigate another year carrying a tough schedule.

CANFIELD VOLLEYBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP 1) WITH KRISTA NESBITT

CANFIELD OH- a second year with a program is always a fun one to watch for a coach.  Building a culture is done, and now the steps go into motion to sustain it.  For Canfield volleyball and second year head coach Krista Nesbitt this year will indeed about being sustaining the leadership of eight seniors that graduated the program.  There are now plenty of open spots, which will grant new opportunities for the rising youth the Cardinals carry.  The one thing you know about Canfield , is they have a knack for winning, no matter the sport. The Cardinals will carry this winning mentality through a tough AAC, and an even tougher non conference schedule. It all begins August 22nd at Archbishop Hoban.

COLUMBIANA OH- You can’t talk about Youngstown area volleyball without bringing up the Crestview Rebels.  With so much winning tradition in the program, no one should be shocked that they have on an upswing for the past 4 seasons. The Rebels have won 4 consecutive district championships and are trying to get their current senior class a trophy every single season of the high school career.  It’s a Rebel team that brings back a complete arsenal of players that should lead to much continued success.  There aren’t too many holes in this roster if you’re looking for them.  Whether you’re talking setting, hitting, or defense the Rebels are returning experience in every aspect of the game.  Under one of the most well respected coaches in the area in Alisha Auer the Rebels promise to be one of the premiere YSN teams yet again.
