SALEM FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 11) WITH RON JOHNSON

Coach Ron Johnson and the Salem Quakers closed out their regular season at home in week ten with a 46-27 victory over the West Branch Warriors last Friday night. With that win, the Quakes secured a spot in the 2019 OHSAA State Football Playoffs. Salem will hit the road and travel to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy on Saturday night.

YSN’s own, Jarrod Niederhiser, sat down with Coach Johnson to discuss the first round of the playoffs and to get his take on what the Quakers need to do to advance into the next round.

It’s been an incredible year for Coach Jeff Bayuk and the Kennedy Eagles, and for the fifth consecutive season, the Eagles fly into coveted Week 11.  However, 2019 looks to be different for the #BluePride, and there’s a bit of swagger with the boys this year.

This year feels a bit different as if just showing up to the postseason party isn’t quite enough.  There’s more to be had.

We caught up with Coach Bayuk who is celebrating his 200 wins and counting in 2019, and a D7 State Title wouldn’t look too bad on the mantle to cap the year off.

SOUTH RANGE FOOTBALL COACH’S CORNER (EP. 11) WITH DAN YEAGLEY

Coach Dan Yeagley and the South Range Raiders knew going into their week ten match up with the Hubbard Eagles was a “win and you’re in” situation. The Raiders took full advantage of that mindset and defeated the Eagles 36-16. Week eleven will be game one of the 2019 OHSAA State Football Playoffs and South Range will host the Bellaire Big Reds on Saturday night.

Coach Paul Cusick and the Crestview Rebels hit the road in week nine, as they traveled up to Champion to take on the 7-1, Golden Flashes. The Rebels came out on fire and Champion did not have an answer as they were shutout 35-0 by the Rebels. Week ten will not only be the final game of the 2019 regular season, but it will also be the final home game for Crestview, as the LaBrae Vikings will come to town on Friday night.

YSN’s own, D.J. Yokley, had the opportunity to sit down with Coach Q to discuss the last week’s big win over Champion but also talk about what their current three-game winning streak has meant to his team.

Coach Moose Ramsey and the Wellsville Tigers hosted Southern last week to take on an Indian team that’s on fire and unfortunately came up a little short. Week ten will put the Tigers to the test again as they will play host to their neighbors down the river, East Liverpool.

Week nine matched Coach P.J. Fecko and the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals up with the Ursuline Fighting Irish, unfortunately, the Cardinals fell just short in the last few minutes, 20-13. Week ten will keep Cardinal Mooney at home at Stambaugh Stadium as they will host the Austintown Fitch Falcons on Friday night.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, took some time this week with Coach Fecko to talk about what he took away from the Ursuline game last week and also what the Cards need to do against Fitch this week to keep their playoff chances alive, as they currently hold the #10 seed in their region of Division 4.

Coach Dan Reardon and the Ursuline Fighting Irish knew going into week nine that it was the most important game of the year. Everyone in the Youngstown area knows that the “Holy War” is one of, if not the biggest, high school football game in the Mahoning Valley. The Fighting Irish started off slow but at the end of the night, they emerged victorious, 20-13 over the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals. Week ten will be another difficult test for Ursuline as they will look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, as they travel down to Akron to take on the Fighting Irish of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary.

YSN’s own “Holy War” expert, Steve Leslie, caught up with Coach Reardon this week to talk about the “Holy War” and what his takeaways were from that game. Also discussed was the 2019 playoffs “dream,” and what the Irish need to do to make the dream, a reality.

Austintown Fitch will close out the 2019 football season with another road game as they will travel down to the campus of Youngstown State to take on the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals on Friday night.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, caught up with Coach Elliot to discuss how his first season as head coach went, his outlook moving forward, but also what he thinks his Falcons are capable of doing in week ten against Mooney at Stambaugh Stadium.
