BEAVERS SWEEP RIVAL POTTERS

EAST LIVERPOOL, OH- The Beaver Local Track team has its eyes set on repeating the success the program had in 2021.  A year in which the Beavers sent multiple athletes to the State Track meet and welcomed home a State Champion in Caleb White (100M Dash).

Fast Forward to 2022 the Red and White look primed to top that success as they captured an early-season sweep of rival East Liverpool on Tuesday night.  The Beavers Boys squad came out on top 77.5-46.5, while the  Red & White Girls posted an 81-48 victory.

SOUTHERN SWEEPS QUAD MEET TO OPEN TRACK AND FIELD SEASON IN EP

EAST PALESTINE, OH- Southern Local flexed its muscles on a cold day in March to start their season Tuesday.  The Lady Indians distanced themselves from East Palestine in an 84 point total, East Palestine had 54.50, Lisbon had 28.5, and Leetonia had 27.

The Boys team for Southern started things off on the right foot as well with 101 points in their victory.  Leetonia placed second with 44, East Palestine with 35, and Lisbon rounded out the back with 33.

PERRY HELPS YSU TRACK WIN HORIZON LEAGUE

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Crestview alum, Dominic Perry helpel Youngstown State win the 2022 Indoor Horizon league championship.
Perry registered as the Horizon League champion in the weight throw (60′ 1 3/4), and runner up in the shot put (57′ 5 3/4).

PLANTING SEEDS FOR SUCCESS

CANFIELD OH- Canfield track star Nick Plant has taken his success far past the stretches of our valley. The star runner is coming off a summer where he won gold in the 800m run at the Brooks Invitational in Seattle. His winning time of 1:49.39 beat even his state title time of 1:49.79.

BACHO MAKES IT OFFICIAL WITH MOUNT UNION

BOARDMAN, OH- Spartan Senior Track and Field star Jonah Bacho has signed with Mount Union to continue his throwing career.  Jonah threw 54’10” to place 8th in Ohio.  He was selected All-State, Academic All-State, District Champion, and All-Conference.

He is Boardman’s first thrower to place at the state meet since All-Pro NFL Center Corey Linsley in 2009.

CRESTVIEW STANDOUT PERRY SIGNS WITH WALSH

COLUMBIANA, OH- Recent Crestview graduate, and standout student-athlete, Krista Perry has made her commitment to continuing her academic and athletic career at Walsh University.  Perry signed the dotted line on Monday in front of family, friends and administrators at Crestview High School.

Krista Perry will continue her academic and athletic careers at Walsh University on a women’s track & field scholarship.  She will join her brother Dom (YSU) in competing in track & field beyond the high school ranks.
We would like to congratulate Krista on all her success over the last four years and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

IT’S WONNER TIME!

NEW MIDDLETOWN, OH – The tradition of being a Tiger at Springfield carries with it a ton of pride and joy but one such student-athlete embodies that attitude more than most. Lexi Wonner is someone that “bleeds” orange and black in all aspects of her life. Lexi is able to play for Springfield on the soccer and track teams, but also showcase her cheer talents as one of the members of the cheerleading squad at all Springfield games in football and basketball. Not only does Lexi excel in sports at Springfield, she is also a rodeo queen and partakes in many events involving the rodeo.

This past soccer season, Lexi was able to help guide the Tigers to a perfect regular season record and a district semi-finals appearance. She was also able to cheer on the Tigers football team who made a trip to the Division VI state championship game and Wonner is currently cheering on the boys basketball team who is in the middle of their own playoff run as they will welcome Champion to town on Tuesday night.

YSN’s own, Steve Leslie, was able to catch up with Lexi this week via video chat to discuss how COVID effected her soccer, cheer, and past plus future track seasons, how cheerleading has been different for her this season due to COVID guidelines of only allowing for home games to be cheered at, how YSN has been able to help her and her family throughout the year and multiple sports seasons, what we can expect from her and the Lady Tigers in the upcoming track and field season, and a rapid fire question session to learn more about what makes Lexi the student-athlete that she is!
