CHAMPION DOUBLE DIPS IN THE WIN COLUMN

WARREN OH- Champion handled business in a big way Monday, sweeping a doubleheader against Liberty without much trouble, outscoring them 16-0 across two games.

The Flashes came out swinging in the opener. They pushed four runs across in the first inning without even needing a hit-heavy rally — a few walks and a timely single by Sawyer White had Champion out front early.

They kept adding on, with Shane Hixson lacing a single in the second and Zack Morris knocking in another run in the third. That was more than enough support for Konner Reed, who was filthy on the mound. Reed went four innings without allowing a hit, punching out nine and walking just one.

Champion finished with 10 hits, led by Carter Boggs and Morris with two each, while Jarett Pitts drove in a pair. The Flashes were disciplined too, drawing seven walks and playing a clean game defensively with no errors.

The second game had a different feel but the same result — Champion in complete control.

The Flashes jumped on Liberty again early, grabbing three runs in the top of the first behind a walk from Dylan Howell, a center field single by Carter Chapin, and a liner down the right field line from Bradey Quinby. They kept the pressure on in the second, taking advantage of a Liberty error and tacking on two more runs thanks to another Howell walk and another Chapin single.

Seth Domes grabbed the win, dealing three innings of one-hit ball with three punchouts. Nathan Wolfe cleaned up the rest, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts of his own.

Champion’s offense didn’t need a ton of fireworks in Game 2 — just smart, steady baseball. Chapin led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. The Flashes stayed aggressive too, swiping six bags and once again flashing the leather with another error-free game. Champion will look to keep the momentum rolling when they head to McKinley on Wednesday.
