CHAMPION HOLDS ON TO ADVANCE

Champion got out to a six-run lead in the third inning and held on for a 6-5 victory over Grand Valley on Wednesday. Grand Valley scored four runs in the failed comeback on a single by Zach Hall, a single by Casey Turner, and a double by Chase Cottrell.

The Flashes earned the victory despite allowing Grand Valley to score five runs in the sixth inning. Hall, Turner, and Cottrell each had RBIs in the frame.

Champion got things moving in the second inning. Collin Brainard drove in one when Brainard singled.

Champion scored five runs in the third inning. Their big bats were led by Adam Fisher, Tyler Skaggs, Brainard, and Zachary Bickel, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Nathan Holt earned the win for Champion. The pitcher allowed six hits and five runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking one. Skaggs threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Skaggs recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

Derek Jackson took the loss for Grand Valley. The pitcher allowed two hits and four runs over two innings, striking out four.

Brainard led the Flashes with two hits in three at bats.

Cottrell went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Grand Valley in hits.
