CHANEY BATTLES STATE CHAMPS TO THE END

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –

Looking to gain momentum from their revenge victory over Boardman last Saturday, the Chaney Cowboys played host to yet another top tier team, the Akron Saint Vincent Saint Mary Fighting Irish (2-2).

Sloppy play and turnovers ruled a first quarter that saw seven different players record a bucket. After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Cowboys would trade blows with the Irish before a strong finish to the quarter by Cleveland State commit, Ramar Pryor, would put Saint V’s ahead 12-7 at the end of one.

To start the second, the Irish would pick up right where they left off, forcing Chaney turnovers, and converting in transition. Coach Joyce’s troops were effectively taking the crowd out of effect, until Chaney big man, Clive Wilson, would slam home a rim rattling dunk to bring the Cowboycrowd alive. Transition buckets by Cam Sly and Josiah Gonzalez helped Chaney take their first lead since just a few minutes into the game.

With just under two minutes to play in the half, Saint V’s star and Illinois commit, Sincere Harris, would collide with a Chaney Cowboy chasing after a loose ball. Held rather quiet prior to the collision, a little bit of contact was all Harris needed to get going. The soon to be Fighting Illini would score the last four points of the half to put the Irish back in front heading into the break.

Harris would continue his dominance throughout the rest of the night, shooting eight of thirteenthroughout the second half to finish the night with a whopping 34 points. Only to be outdone by his teammate in Harris, Ramar Pryor also put up an impressive performance. Pryor’s three for three efforts from long range in the fourth helped put the Cowboys away. Pryor would end the night with 25 points.

The combo of Harris and Pryor proved to be too much for Chaney, as the duo would outscore the Cowboys themselves, fifty-nine to fifty-three. The rest of the Irish would chip in fifteen of their own to pick up the victory 74-53.
