CHANEY RIDES INTO NEXT ROUND

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –

Looking to three-peat as district champs, the #1 seed Chaney Cowboys (15-8) played host to the #25 seeded Mogadore Field Falcons (5-18). Since sports were brought back to Chaney, the Cowboys have amassed two district crowns, and one district runner up (coming in the inaugural season).

Boasting one of the toughest schedules in Northeast Ohio, Chaney struggled little with the visiting Falcons once they got through the first quarter of action. Led by a perfect 4/4 effort by Xander Rorrer in the first, Field was able to find some early success against the Cowboys, trailing by just seven at the end of one.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, that success was unsustainable, as a relentless Chaney defense forced turnovers in abundance, and a dominate display by Clive Wilson on the offensive boards led to sixteen first half points by the towering senior.

Ahead at the break by twenty-six, the Chaney starters expanded the Cowboy lead out to thirty-nine by the end of the third, then watched theendless amounts of depth coming off the Chaney bench dominate the fourth quarter as well, winning the final stanza thirteen to seven, and capturing their first playoff victory of the 2022 campaign, 79-32.

CHANEY:

Clive Wilson 18 points, 12 rebounds, 1 block

DJ Waller – 14 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist

Josiah Gonzalez – 13 points, 4 assists, 1 rebound

FIELD:

Brayden Cadwell – 14 points, 2 rebounds

Xander Rorrer 8 points, 8 rebounds

Chaney With their routing of the visiting Falcons, the Cowboys have set themselves up for round 3 against the Youngstown East Golden Bears (1-17). Chaney is undefeated against East since the reopening of the school.

Field Falling in the opening round for the 5thyear in a row, the Field Falcons end the season with a record of 5-18 and extended their playoff drought to now 20 years.
