CHASING CHASE, FRANKEN TOSSES NO-NO AGAINST GIRARD

COLUMBIANA, OH- The day started with the Clippers scheduled to play at Canal Park in Akron but ended with a no-hitter at home in Columbiana.  The Akron Rubberducks decided at 12:30 that their field would not be ready to play by the scheduled 6 PM start time so the game was canceled.  With the Clippers home field in good shape, the Girard Indians agreed to come to town for a Friday afternoon game.

Chase Franken (5-3) took the bump and was near perfect as he allowed zero hits in his five innings of work in the Clippers (13-9) 14-0 win over Girard.  Franken issued one walk and two base runners in total while striking out five.  He was efficient and was the recipient of excellent defense behind him.

Franken also helped his own cause offensively as he was 3-4 on the day including two triples and a double.  He had four RBI and scored three runs for the Clippers.  His third run broke the school record for runs in a Clipper career.  Wayne Davis added two hits with a double and knocked in a run.  Evan Kenneally had three RBI and Logan Hoschar added a 2-run single for Columbiana.  Joey Wilczak recorded his first varsity hit with a single in the fourth inning.

Columbiana will take on United Saturday at Noon in a makeup EOAC contest before facing the Eagles again on Monday in OHSAA tournament action.
