CLIPPERS BOUNCE BACK AGAINST LISBON

LISBON, OH- Columbiana (4-4, 3-2) traveled to Lisbon Tuesday afternoon looking to rebound after a close 4-2 defeat on Monday.  The Clippers started fast scoring 5 runs in the first inning highlighted by Michael Ginocchi’s 2 run single and would never look back en route to a 14-5 victory.

Ryan Fahs (1-1) picked up the victory on the mound pitching 4 solid innings while Matt Mazei and Wayne Davis finished off the game for Columbiana.

After the first, both teams traded runs with Lisbon chipping away and looking to tie the game up with the bases loaded down 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh but a fine defensive play by Tyler Andersen and Evan Kenneally would end the Blue Devil threat.

In the following inning another clutch two-out single by Ginocchi would provide much-needed insurance and 2 out doubles by Chase Franken and Erik Hopfenziz would give the Clippers all they needed for the victory.

Offensively, the Clippers pounded out 12 hits with Franken leading the way with 3.  Hopfenziz, Ginocchi, and Andersen also each collected two hits while Hopfenziz and Ginocchi each drove in 3 runs.

Columbiana is off Wednesday but will be back in action at Legion Field on Thursday when they play host to the Ursuline Irish.  Game time is 5 PM.
