CLIPPERS ENJOY OPENING DAY WALK-OFF

COLUMBIANA, OH-  Senior Ryan Fahs started the game and ended it for his Columbiana Clippers on opening day of the Mahoning Valley High School 2020 season here at Firestone Park on Saturday afternoon.  As seen on YSNLive, Fahs delivered a two out base hit to right to plate Brady Kridler giving Columbiana a 9-8 victory in eight innings over the United Golden Eagles.

Fahs started the game on the mound for Coach Ryan Wolf and gutted out three innings, leaving the hill with United leading 5-4.  After both teams scored single tallies in the second inning, the Eagles put up four in the third to the Clippers three.  United extended that lead to 7-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth.

Ethan McDevitt, in relief of Brant Hahlen, dodged a couple bullets in two previous innings before the Clippers broke through in the sixth.  Fahs cut it to 7-6 with a two-run single before Chase Franken knocked him in to tie it.  Franken then stole third and home to give the Clips an 8-7 lead heading into the 7th.  United was able to tie the game with a sac fly by Tanner McCormick in the top of the 7th.

Logan Hoschar was brilliant on the mound in the eighth to pick up the win.  Fahs and Franken each had two hits for the Clippers.
