CLIPPERS FALL JUST SHORT TO GILMOUR ACADEMY

COLUMBIANA OH-  Both Gilmour Academy and Columbiana had their offenses going on Thursday, but the Clippers eventually succumbed 9-7 in the high-scoring affair.

The Clippers lost despite out-hitting Gilmour Academy 11 to ten.

Gilmour Academy pulled away for good with eight runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Clare Peterson doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run, Sammi Fedeli grounded out, scoring one run, Madison Minotas reached on a dropped third strike, Laney Klika singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Megan Mlinaric singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, and Lauren Riccobelli singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

Mlinaric pitched Gilmour Academy to victory. The fireballer lasted seven innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs while striking out four.

Tori Long took the loss for the Clippers. The righthander went five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits and striking out four.

The Clippers socked one home run on the day. Long put one out in the fifth inning.

Columbiana tallied 11 hits in the game. Long, Julia Rapp, Ava Davanzo, Ella Dota, and Maryn Hepler each managed multiple hits, Hepler, Dota, Davanzo, Rapp, and Long each managed two hits to lead.

Gilmour Academy totaled ten hits. Klika, Mlinaric, and Riccobelli all managed multiple hits. Klika led with three hits in four at bats. Gilmour Academy stole five bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Klika led the way with two. Gilmour Academy was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Lily Prebul made the most plays with six.
