CLIPPERS NOT PHASED ON THE ROAD

MINERAL RIDGE OH- New head coach Eric Harper and the Mineral Ridge Rams looked to bounce back after a disappointing 2021-22 season as they hosted the Columbiana Clippers friday at the Rams gymnasium or as the student section had it as “The Mob”.

The Rams took the first half and seemed to have control leading 26-23.  However, the defense of the Clippers stepped up in the second half, being led by Devin Daugherty, the junior who last season averaged 7.7 points per game and threw up 30 points to start the season.  Daughertu would be helped in the second half by Maddox Brown (12 points) and Ian Less (11 points) as they kept the momentum rolling.  Ridge would only score 14 total points in the second half with Jordan Moore, Trey Rigley, Julian Rozzi and a three by Elias Clarke.  Unfortunately for the Rams, they ran out of time, sent the Clippers in the double bonus and gave Columbiana and seventh year coach Todd Johnson the week one victory 62-40.

After the game, YSNs Ian O’Brien spoke with coach Johnson on what changed after the first half and what to expect for the next coming weeks against Beaver Local and Lisbon.  Mineral Ridge meanwhile will look to bounce back against Newton Falls on Tuesday.
