CLIPPERS PUT THE CLAMPS ON BLUE DEVILS

COLUMBIANA, OH- Columbiana’s relentless defense forced three early turnovers and capitalized smartly to take control and cruise to a 41-14 victory over visiting McDonald here Friday night. Led by senior end, Cody Miller, the Clipper defensive front tortured the Blue Devil offense, which set up short fields for Coach Spaite’s charges.

Jakob Cross converted the first turnover by hitting Xathon Cross over the middle for a 7-yard touchdown pass. Then he found Joey Bable up the seam for a 32-yard strike making it 15-0 in the first quarter. Cross continued to put the ball into the end zone all night long for a total of six touchdowns. He found Chase Franken for 31 yards before hitting Xathon again for 20 yards. A one-yard plunge and a 40-yard scamper rounded out his prolific night.

Plagued by the turnovers, McDonald could find no rhythm on offense but were able to perfectly execute a screen pass on 4th and ten as Dominic Schadl connected with Nathan Gilligan, and Coach Williams’ crew faced a 28-7 deficit at the half. Schadl scored late on a one-yard quarterback sneak.

It will be a huge test next Friday as the Springfield Tigers (2-0) will play host to the Clippers (1-1). YSN will be just a click away with all the action.
