CLIPPERS ROW PAST VIKINGS IN FINAL TUNE-UP

COLUMBIANA, OH- Columbiana (13-14) hosted LaBrae on Monday in a non-conference showdown in preparation of the upcoming district tournament on Wednesday.  LaBrae jumped on Columbiana in the first scoring 4 runs, but the Clippers responded by scoring 12 unanswered runs en route to a 12-4 victory over the Vikings.

Columbiana’s bats were hot all day as the Clipper collected 16 hits on the afternoon.  Leading the way was AJ Perkins, who had 3 hits including a triple and a double and also knocked in 3 runs.  Joe Bable, Chase Franken, Erik Hopfenziz, Evan Kenneally and Hunter Zentner each had a pair of hits for the Clippers as they batted around in 3 separate innings.

On the mound, the Clippers used a combination of 4 pitchers to hold down the potent LaBrae offense.  Ryan Fahs picked up the win as he pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief giving up 0 runs on 3 hits with 1 walk.  Matt Mazei was excellent for Columbiana in his 3 innings of work.  Mazei gave up 1 hit while striking out 3 and walking none.

Columbiana will have an off day Tuesday and look to stay hot when they travel to Cene Park on Wednesday to take on the Mogadore Wildcats in an OHSAA District Semi-final.  The first pitch is scheduled for 4 PM on Cene Field #2.
