COLUMBIANA DICES IT UP AGAINST SOUTHERN
COLUMBIANA OH- Columbiana lit up the scoreboard Monday, rolling past Southern 16-6 at Firestone Park. Hunter Davanzo led the charge at the plate, driving in four runs with a double early and a three-run bomb late to keep the Clippers in control all afternoon.
Columbiana didn’t waste any time getting after it. They cracked the scoreboard in the first with a pair of doubles, and then really broke things open in the second with a five-run frame that featured a two-run single and a three-run inside-the-park homer.
Southern made a little noise in the fourth, plating six runs on four hits to tighten things up, but Columbiana didn’t flinch. The Clippers dropped the hammer in the sixth, putting up eight more runs. Davanzo’s three-run shot was the big blow, but they kept the line moving with a sac fly and a hit-by-pitch RBI to blow it wide open.
Reese Roush picked up the win on the mound, striking out eight over four innings. Sam Inboden came in to close it down and grab the save.
At the plate, Columbiana stacked up 16 hits. Zane Strohecker, hitting out of the nine spot, went a perfect 3-for-3 to show just how deep the Clippers lineup runs. Avery Young, Roush, Inboden, and Liam McElwain all chipped in with multi-hit games, and Columbiana ran wild on the bases, stealing eight bags.
Southern turned a double play and had a couple multi-RBI swings to hang around for a bit, but they couldn’t match the firepower. The two teams meet again Wednesday, this time at Southern.
