COLUMBIANA PITCHING CONTINUES TO DOMINATE

SALINEVILLE OH Riley McElwain was brilliant on the hill on Monday, as he threw a no-hitter to lead Columbiana Varsity Clippers past Southern 27-0.

Devin Daugherty collected four hits in four at bats to help lead Columbiana to victory. Daugherty doubled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, and doubled in the fourth.

The Clippers got things started in the first inning when Zachary Pleska hit a solo homer.

Columbiana scored 15 runs in the second inning. Their big inning was driven by singles by Eddie Clancy, Daugherty, McElwain, Trevor Dearing, and Matteo Mazzotta, walks by McElwain, Alex Eusebio, Seth Spooner, Eusebio, and Brady Kridler, a sac fly by Clancy, a fielder’s choice by Bayden Pipoly, and an error on a ball put in play by Kridler.

McElwain earned the win for Columbiana. The lefthander surrendered zero runs on zero hits over five innings, striking out 12.

The Clippers hit two home runs on the day. Spooner had a dinger in the first inning. Pleska had a four bagger in the first inning.

Columbiana tallied 16 hits in the game. Daugherty and McElwain each had multiple hits. Daugherty led with four hits in four at bats.
