CONNECT 4: QUAKERS GETTING HOT

NILES, OH- The Quakers extended their win streak to four and ended Western Reserve’s 6 game win streak on Thursday with a 9-7 victory at Eastwood Field in Niles.

Freshman starting pitcher Brock Young got his first varsity win as he went 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs while striking out 5.

While the Quaker defense might have been shaky behind the young lefty, their bats stayed hot as they put up 9 runs on 8 hits.

It wasn’t a lot of hits however that would get the Quaker offense started as they put up 6 runs in the second inning off of 4 walks and 2 hit batters to make the score 6-2.

After Reserve would answer right back in the top of the 3rd to cut the lead to 6-4, the Quakers added 2 more of their own in the 5th when freshman Blaize Exline and junior Joey Watson scored on a 2 out 2 RBI single by senior Turner Johnson.

Salem added another in the 6th after Sophomore Lane Rhodes doubled and was sent home on an RBI single by senior Adam Wilson.

The Quakers would take a 5 run lead into the 7th but would make it interesting by giving up 3 runs to cut the gap to 9-7 with 2 runners on but would get out of trouble and seal the win on a ground ball to second base.

The Quakers are now 13-11 on the year 7-5 in the EBC and will host United in their regular season finally at Ray Reisbeck Field tomorrow night under the lights at 7 pm.
