COWBOYS GET REVENGE ON THE BIG STAGE

BOARDMAN, Ohio – Josiah Gonzalez’s double-double leads Chaney to their fourth straight district title in a 44-36 victory over Canfield.

In a rematch from late January, the Chaney Cowboys (19-8) looked to revenge the 66-58 loss suffered at home to the Canfield Cardinals (20-6). Both teams came swinging out of the gates trading buckets throughout the early parts of the first. After a Canfield made basket would make give the Cardinals an 11-7 lead, Chaney would respond with a basket of their own to close the gap to two at the end of one.

The Cowboys would dominate the second quarter, adding on to their 2-0 run to end the first with another 13-0 run to grab the largest lead of the day at 22-11. Canfield would almost six minutes to score in the second period, and would end with only four points in the second all coming from free throws.

Trailing by nine coming out of the half, Canfield would start the second half on a 5-0 run to close the gap to just four. The two sides would trade runs throughout the third, but Canfield would close the quarter on another 5-0 to once again cut the Chaney lead to four.

Canfield would start the fourth with a 7-2 run to take their first lead since early on in the second quarter. Unfortunately for the Cards, the lead would not last. After relinquishing the lead, Chaney would end the game with another big run, this time 9-0 to close out the ballgame and secure the district championship.
