Back in action for the first time since last Friday, the Chaney Cowboys (9-6) saw three players reach double digits in their 61-52 victory over the visiting South Range Raiders (9-8).

Six different Cowboys would score in the opening quarter of play to jumpstart Chaney to a five point lead at the end of one. Matt Jones led the way with six first quarter points.

South Range would close the gap to just one by the break, thanks to lights out shooting by sophomore guard, Luke Rohan. Rohan scored 12 first half points, knocking down a pair of threes in the first as well as another duo in the second.

The two teams would trade blows throughout the third quarter trading the lead back and forth before Chaney would close the period on a run to take a four-point lead into the fourth.

Rohan would start the fourth blazing hot, knocking down another pair of three’s to evaporate and take the lead from Chaney. The Cowboys would respond by ramping up the pressure defensively, forcing turnovers to get out and run. Matt Jones and Jason Hewlett would combine for 11 of the Cowboy’s 18 fourth quarter points to close out the Chaney victory.

Matt Jones – 17 points

Jason Hewlett – 14 points

Josiah Gonzalez – 10 points

Luke Rohan – 21 points, 7 made three’s

Landon Moore – 14 points

Chaney: Grabbing a much-needed win, the Chaney Cowboys will look to build upon their momentum in a rematch with the Ursuline Irish (14-1). Ursuline took the opening matchup on the westside, 80-65. The SVC conference foes will face off this coming Tuesday, January 31st, catch all the action on YSN Live @ 7:00 pm.

South Range: Falling short in their last came of the week, the Raiders still made some noise in the NE8 with their wins on Tuesday and Friday, and will look to continue their conference run hosting the Lakeview Bulldogs (2-16) Tuesday the 31st. The Raiders handled Lakeview earlier this season in Cortland, 61-37.
